Maybe if you changed your mentality to that of the perpetual "victim", you'd have a better chance of understanding.

Hahahahaha no thanks.

I enjoy my phone... and I used to enjoy this forum, but I can see its going to devolve into a cluster*ck of complaining about WP8 for at least the next month or so, so I think I'll take a break until the dust settles.

HOLY CRAP MICROSOFT JUST SCREWED UP BIG TIME!!!!

They are making a new OS that won't run on my 3 year old phone.

That does it. I'm going to show them. I will never buy the phone I like again, I will switch to another platform I don't like as much, to punish them. That will show them!

Technically they made an OS that won't work on some people's 3 day old device. :) But I get your point.

While I see the points made in that article those people who recently purchased, on a 2 year contract (!), a Windows Phone don't really care if Windows CE is over a decade old, most likely they don't even know what Windows CE is or why it had to be abandoned. What they care is that they got a phone a short time ago which "won't get the new update and won't get the new apps". Most don't read blogs/tech news/forums so this is the message which they'll get from the mainstream media. For Microsoft not so much of a problem, but potentially devastating for Nokia who is already struggling.

Thank you very much my brother... +1 for understanding me

What I see is, developers will try to make use of the multicore capabilities of WP8. With this, you can not develop an app for both WP8 and 7.x and they'll will probably be developing those new apps on a WP8 device later this year. You just can't develop a multicore app on WP7.x. The android boys now have something to laugh at....FRAGMENTATION....welcomed at last.

What happens after WP7.8 upgrade? NOTHING? DEAD END I guess. Your fresh Lumia 900 is obsolete now.

Do people even know that the word "obsolete" means?

So answer me this. I saw this number on another post. There are 12+ million Windows Phones out there.

There are zero WP8 and W8 devices out there.

Is a developer going to create an app that only runs on the new platform and ignore the old one that has millions of users?

Don't you think the prospect of knowing there could be a crap ton of WP8 and W8 devices out would maybe motivate developers like Instragram and Pandora to go ahead and create an app that will work on WP7.x now knowing it will work on WP8 when it launches?

If I was a developer I will make apps for Windows 8, why? Because there's no future in Windows Phone 7. And my app will run on windows 8 Pc, Tablets and phones, is a no-brainer. 12 million people is not a big number, Google will get that in like a week.

I already stopped caring about this phone, I'm holding a relic. Windows 8 is where is at.

I bought a car in August, and then in October they announced the very SAME MODEL of the car but with extra features. Who's going to support my car now? They screwed me over!

I have a phone running 6.5,why won't MS update my phone to OS 8.You know what," I won't be a WP ****** anymore"..I wan't OUT.. :dry Take that MS.:straight:

Yeah, because the 3Gs is 3 years old. Most people got their Lumias in the last two months. There's an enormous difference.
Sigh....

The 3GS is STILL being sold. It is STILL being pushed as though it is on iOS5 (which it is not, it only runs features of that OS), and will be pushed like it is getting iOS 6, which it won't.

People are still buying the iPhone 4, under the same packaging.

Look, Apple supports their product. I am not saying they don't. But, this is the SAME THING. If the current handsets get all the upgrades they can handle, it is the same support. The Nokia 900, 800, and 710 will be sold AFTER WP8 as well, just cheaper. They will be on 7.8, and still roar like the Beasts they are for their price range.

You are placing a double standard on Microsoft, I am not placing it on Apple. Any criticisms I have of Apple, this isn't among them. But, really, wait until the dust settles. By early 2013, we will see what updates went where.

And by the way, even if 1st Gen devices get none of this, they still will have received 3 major upgrades in their lifespan from pre-nodo to Mango. That is still very, very good

Why are you still believing you are only paying $99?

What about my contract? Can you take over the contract so I can move on to iPhone or Android? I still have 22 months left, that's 22 * $70 = $1540.

You can't do that either, that's the other extreme. The $1540 is for cell phone service, not the phone. I know buying the phone locks you into the contract, but that doesn't make the cost of the phone $1540, unless you're saying your cell phone service is free.

At most, the cost of the phone is what you paid for it + the ETF, which would rid you of your contract. Alternatively, you can stay in contract and pay full price for an iPhone or Android device (or even better, get a lightly used one for less).

How is not obsolete? The camera lags behind, the processor is at least twice as outdated compared to the competition. Its basically a samsung Vibrant. The The only thing it had for it was the possibility of getting Apollo. I'm glad I didn't get one, I almost screw myself there.

Thankfully I only have my terrible Optimus 7 and my contract runs out next year, by that time I expect some Windows 8 sexyness.

You are right, forgot about the ETF.

People are still buying the old iPhone 4 even though it doesn't have Siri and will not get turn by turn navigation. People are clueless. :)
There is a difference between not getting (some) features or in the future not getting app developed for your platform. And let's face is, despite the (imo great) integration of wp7, a smartphone is about the apps. And unlike iOS or Android the WP8 apps are planned to work on Windows 8 too thus being a large incentive for app devs to make the best possible apps for these platforms. Which in turn decreases motivation to create apps for wp7 devices.
Might turn out otherwise and we'll see how it goes. Until then I'll continue enjoying my gen1 device.

Socialcarpet, don't bother posting until you know your history. Microsoft is notorious for requiring hardware upgrades to use new software. This is historical fact. This latest move shows they haven't changed one bit. Very disappointing.

Yeah. We should all still be working on newer versions of DOS running on x486 computers.

I had my expectations very very low for this event but they still managed to disappointed me.

Windows Phone 7 is dead, dead like webOS and meego. Good luck getting new apps or games or any kind of support. Our phones have no future, this update system makes Google look like Apple.

The 900 is basically useless right now ( I don't feel bad for Nokia, since they love their dead OS 's like Symbian and meego), though it's still a better deal than the N9 and 808.

They even went as far as ruining the only thing the OS had going for it, the main screen. It now looks worse than even the crappiest 100 bucks android than grandma has.

Did you skip your medication at breakfast again this morning?

Now, I thought we talked about this. If you don't take your bipolar meds then you get deeply depressed about inconsequential nonsense and sink into ridiculous doom and gloom scenarios.

Do we need to call your shrink for an intervention again? :straight:
