Aeon knows what's up. I'm going to keep using my Gen one phone until I get an Apollo devices ,or Android or IOS. But so far I'm interested in Windows Phone 8.

How is not obsolete? The camera lags behind, the processor is at least twice as outdated compared to the competition. Its basically a samsung Vibrant. The The only thing it had for it was the possibility of getting Apollo. I'm glad I didn't get one, I almost screw myself there.

Thankfully I only have my terrible Optimus 7 and my contract runs out next year, by that time I expect some Windows 8 sexyness.

Will the features and services on your phone still work? Does it connect to your WiFi? Does it make calls? Text messages? The apps connect with cloud services correctly?

Sounds like all currently supported technology.

It may not be the NEWEST or LATEST AND GREATEST, but it's not even close to being obsolete. Not even in the same universe as obsolete.

Socialcarpet, don't bother posting until you know your history. Microsoft is notorious for requiring hardware upgrades to use new software. This is historical fact. This latest move shows they haven't changed one bit. Very disappointing.

Sent from my Lumia 900 using Board Express

I've been using Apple computers for the better part of 20 years, so I'm familiar with the concept.

Apple is 10 times "worse" about requiring upgrades on their computers. ****, they've changed the entire processor architecture THREE TIMES since I got my first Apple. Microsoft has ludicrous levels of backwards compatibility by comparison, and a desktop computer or a laptop is a MUCH bigger investment than a phone or PDA.

But you know what? Despite all that, it's never been a problem for me because I'm not some kind of miserly coupon clipper who buys a phone or a PC and expects it to run for 10 years and be eligible for every new piece of software that comes out.

I buy my computers, I keep them for 3-4-5 years tops. In that time, I get some upgrades, and some I don't. Then I MOVE ON.

I buy a phone, I keep it for 2 years. Maybe I get a little software update, maybe I don't. The contract ends, or whatever and I buy a new one and MOVE ON.

I don't know what you want exactly? Retro-compatibility forever? What would make you happy. Where do you draw the line? Is it EVER an acceptable time for them to try to make a bit of progress that MIGHT just be significant enough to require new hardware???

Obsolete doesn't mean it won't work. It means is old technology. The HD7 works fine and dandy but it's obsolete. Running a dead OS makes a phone obsolete.

If I was a developer I will make apps for Windows 8, why? Because there's no future in Windows Phone 7. And my app will run on windows 8 Pc, Tablets and phones, is a no-brainer. 12 million people is not a big number, Google will get that in like a week.

I already stopped caring about this phone, I'm holding a relic. Windows 8 is where is at.

If you were a dev you'd make apps for both platforms as WP7 is likely to have the biggest marketshare for at least another year and the codes are 90% the same.

I told y'all the cycle will repeat itself oneday...
Look what just came out:
"While current Windows Phones – even those that just launched this year – will be cut off with Windows Phone 7.8, future Windows Phone 8 devices will get at least 18 months of software updates. However, Apple has historically provided iOS updates for its various devices over a much longer timeframe – the iPhone 3GS, introduced back in 2009, will receive iOS 6 later this year, plus minor updates after that, which makes for over 40 months of updates. If the Windows Phone team sticks to its yearly release schedule, 18 months would mean only one major update plus six months of additional minor updates.

Right after 18 months, So called WP8 will be ****ed just like WP7.x now.

Windows Phone 8 guarantees 18 months of over-the-air updates, but is that enough? | WMPoweruser

I am simplifying this, but it is not like anybody told anybody that they had to buy a WP7 phone.

Especially when you are on this site with the question of an upgrade has been discussed to death for a long time, but people still went ahead and bought phones over the last few months. You guys knew the risk, you guys made a choice, and now angry that a WP8 upgrade will not come to a wp7 when it was expected due to tech incompatibility.

You decided to give your credit card, write a check (if you still do), pay cash for your phones knowing that there is a possibility of this. I am quite surprised by such an uproar for users on this site.

Like i've said, those that believed wp8 would be coming to existing devices was only basing it on wishful thinking and "logic" because it would not make sense for MS to NOT upgrade. well, here we are and now people are angry.

In the end, those that recently purchased phone and are unhappy, should of known better.

I bought my focus s back in november knowing the risk, sold and got a 900 knowing the risk, im glad i am getting something instead of nothing. I never expected a full wp8 upgrade, but believed we would get something and we are.

1.
no longer in general use; fallen into disuse: an obsolete expression.

I think the Lumia is still usable.

No one will do that. Windows Phone 7 is dead bro, accept that and move on. Windows 8 baby, embrace it.

Useless? ok....can you send me your phone, i can put your useless phone to use rather easily.

Did you skip your medication at breakfast again this morning?

Now, I thought we talked about this. If you don't take your bipolar meds then you get deeply depressed about inconsequential nonsense and sink into ridiculous doom and gloom scenarios.

Do we need to call your shrink for an intervention again? :straight:

He's always posting doom and gloom scenarios so I'm not surprised at all. I'm sure that apps will be released for WP7.8 because when 7.5 was first released apps were still being created for 7.0 all the way up until MS made it mandatory for WP7.5 so I'm sure it'll be the same scenario when 7.8 and 8.x are released.

Well they said at least 18 months. I'd rather Microsoft be conservative than promise something they later figure out they can't do.

Technically they made an OS that won't work on some people's 3 day old device. :) But I get your point.
If you buy a loaf of bread when it's expired, is it a new loaf of bread? No.

Just because it's new to you doesn't mean it's a new phone. To think that way is not fair to the company making the product. I'm not saying you can't call it your new phone, but to hold the company responsible because you were late to the party isn't practical.

If you want to use the word "obsolete" in your argument, well, the Lumia phones were obsolete from the start. They had less powerful components that the competition. The announcement of WP8 and the fact the Lumia line will get MOST OF THE SAME FEATURES doesn't change anything.

Seriously I don't understand all this whining. If MS had called it WP8 Lite, I'm sure we'd have 1/3 of all the rant thread started today.

That 'contract' you signed has to do with the carriers and the horrid way they abuse the customers in the states. MS has no bearing on that. You can however chose from all the models of iPhone there are. Oh wait...
