I'm an Android user since the first smartphone and currently using Galaxy S4. With my second baby's coming next month, I'm looking for a phone with best photo capturing capability. I ended up consider either the 1020 and 1520. Playing with them yesterday at my local store and reading a handful of reviews I decided the 1520 is a suitable choice for my case. The burst mode of 1020 is simply too lagging to taking picture of the baby and the detail level of 1520 probably is sufficient for my needs.
I don't mind changing to WP, in fact I find it's pretty cool. I believe once you get used to the OS, daily operations should be pretty much the same for all of the mobile platforms. I don't play game and major activities on the phone is answering emails, browsing, Facebook and watching movie on my local NAS. The camera counts for 60% of my decision, the 40% is about the following apps.
1/ A black box, car dashboard recording app similar to Carcorder (iOS) or Autoguard (Android), this is the most important app for me. I prefer Autoguard since Android support multitasking and I can have this app recording my trip in the background and I still be able to listen to the music.
2/ MX Player or a decent movie player with lockscreen function that can play LAN content. I have like 20GB of cartoons for the kids and it will be a mess without the lockscreen for these audiences.
3/ A decent youtube app
4/ Transmission remote control
5/ Talkatone or any Google Voice app
6/ IPCam or a similar app to view my cams on the kid's room
7/ ES File Explorer or a file manger support LAN content
If I can get 5 alternatives out of the 7 above, I will definitely get the lumia 1520 immediately.

As to the apps 1. Yes on black box dash cam apps, no audio though and not autoguard.
2. Wp8 has a lockable 'kids corner' they can have their apps in, maybe vids thru Xbox too. Not sure tho.
3.&5. Google still doesn't seem to like wp8, metro tube is halfway decent, VoIP, Skype , Line are there. Google voice, no.
4. Umm....?
6. Ip cams Yes
7. Negative on file exploring.
You may be better off staying with what you have and adding an actual camera to the Xmas or baby shower gift list. Cheers.

7. No file manager.
6. IP Cams - Yes
5. Google Voice - No
3. Decent Youtube app- mytube is better than official app.
2. Moliplayer is the best video player and has the lockscreen support.
1. Black box dash cam apps - Yes

Don't know wat exactly the transmisson control is.

Thanks for the replies. Transmission is a bittorent client. I probably will give it a try :). Will join you guys soon.

2. One more Thumbs up for MoliPlayer Pro, It is truly the best & plays just about all formats.
3. Youtube - MyTube, MetroTube, PrimeTube
4. Transmission Remote Control - Transmission Mobile, TransBT, Torrent Ctrl, MetroTransmission.
5. Google Voice - Metrotalk, GoVoice

Negative on File Manager, though it may be available in WP 8.1 (No promises). Hope you select WP.
