Happened to me as well the other day. WP 8.1.

Had the same issue on 8.1, several times. It's definitely a process running like crazy in the background. Closing all apps in the multi tasking window always solved the problem for me. Give it a try

I had no apps running, just the Glance on, and the thing was smoking hot. This is weird.

It got hot and drained battery again last night. But this was after playing 2048, the same game I had played the last time it got really hot. It even continues once the app is closed from the multitasking pane. It doesn't drain so bad when actually plain the game, just when you stop and close it to background. Perhaps there is some issue with certain apps being suspended and then eventually being closed. I.e swipe it down to close but for whatever reason the process gets stuck despite the app appearing to be closed fully. The processor then is stuck in some kind of loop that only a reset will solve.
