Lumia 520 on T-Mobile

Hi all, I'm a current L900 user looking for a holdover phone until my contract runs out in April (and/or next gen hits). This means that for the next 4 months, I'm on AT&T. After my contract is up, I'd like to move over to T-Mobile.

I'd love to get my hands on a 520, but I was wondering how many people had successfully swapped carriers with it (assuming there's nothing better than a 925 by April). In particular, how reliable has its HSPA+ performance been? I know that:

• The 520 only supports 1800/1900MHz
• That T-Mobile is 1700 transitioning to 1900
• So getting any speeds above 2G depends on whether you live in an updated area.

In general, have you been able to get good speeds, especially in smaller cities/towns? Is it easier to shoehorn a 521 onto AT&T instead?

Why don't you look at a used 822 instead? It should work on both AT&T and T-Mobile. Or try getting a used 810 that is unlocked, it should work just fine on either network.

You will have to get a 521 unlocked to use on AT&T. If you can find that, and won't mind slow speeds for those 4 months, then go for it. I live in a large metro area while using T-Mobile, so I can't help you there. As for the previous poster's advice for a 822, I need to warn you. The 822 is unlocked and works fine, but with one huge caveat: the connection to the internet is not 100% reliable, and you can only text while on 2G only. If you can afford it, try to aim for an HTC 8X or Nokia Lumia 810, which will assure you get every app or game on WP8.
