I recently switched to using a Lumia 520 with a 64GB MicroSD card from my 64GB iPod Touch 5th gen after reading about Paul Thurrott's suggestion. Sick of iTunes, and I absolutely loath the Music app in iOS7. After using it for 10 days I did a somewhat brief writeup about my experience with it, as well how it compares to using an iPod Touch Looking for an iPod Touch alternative? Try a Lumia 520! | PixelWin

Probably could of been more comprehensive, and I may go back later and add more details, but hopefully someone finds this useful, as I can't be the only one who was searching for a way to get iTunes and the the iPod out of my life.

While i don't intend to purchase a 520 as an MP3 Player, i must say, that is a damn fine write up and well worth the read regardless.

Should be useful to a fair number of people.

Great writeup. If you're in the US, you can get the Lumia for $80 USD on Amazon, $70 at Radio Shack on Black Friday.

Excellent write-up. I am getting a 520 to test my apps on, though i think i shall also use it as an mp3 player now :D

Thanks all! I tried to do my own research before committing to the Lumia 520, but didn't find much so figured what the hell, I'll give it a go and share my results. Still holding out some (very slim) hope that Nokia, err now Microsoft, decides to release a dedicated media device based on WP8. I still think there's a market for such a device.

I'm actually pretty jealous of that. At that price it's a steal!

I've updated my article to include this, but I've noticed that the Music app on Windows Phone 8 likes to put gaps between songs, which is disappointing to say the least, especially since the iPod and other music players (like Archos) have no issues like this.
