Lucky me! I'm not living in the US but was able to get one through a buying agent :)

Seems all the GoPhone 640s have been pulled and diverted to Cricket: Cricket Wireless has the Lumia 640 for $30 and Lumia 650 for $120 | Windows Central

Get a 640 at Cricket for $29.99 w/ activation or only $9.99 w/ activation when you port your number in from another carrier. https://www.cricketwireless.com/cell-phones/smartphones/microsoft-lumia-640.html

Also, Cricket has cut the price of Lumia 650 another $10 and it is now only $120 w/ activation. (That's only 60% of the normal price)

Now is a good time to give Cricket a try, just remember that their phones are locked to Cricket only (not even ATT or ATT mvno works) until after 6 months active service on Cricket or if you use the $70/month plan. https://www.cricketwireless.com/support/apps-and-services/device-unlock/customer/device-unlock.html

Thankfully I got mine in time. Now just to wait for the next iteration. I will be passing on the 650 for now. GPS capability is a bigger deal for me than AMOLED or the premium feel. As it stands even with glance screen on (peek) I will get great battery life and the extra onboard storage is not necessary at this point for me. Hopefully MS will release a 6xx model I find worthy.

So, I'm negotiating with a Meijer's store in Wisconsin to buy the three 640's they have left in stock, if they will ship them to me out here in California. My Brother is a Human Wrecking Ball and has destroyed every smartphone he has owned, usually in a matter of months so for $50, two 640's would be a relatively painless sacrifice to the Beast Man. I already have one tucked away as a backup but I figure for $25, it's a no-brainer even just for the extra battery alone.

If Meijer's doesn't want to take the time to ship them in order to make a $75 sale, I have a member of a Motorcycle forum I belong to who lives about 25 miles from the store. He's willing to ride there, buy the phones, and ship them out to me, provided Meijer's is still holding them for me...

Well, Meijer's doesn't think a $75 sale is worth a little extra effort so my fellow Rider will pick up my three 640's tomorrow evening.

I could see this coming. Probably a policy of if they do it for one, they'd have to do it for everyone and don't mean just for Lumias lol

...there should be a prize for best POST, i'd vote for this one. I'm laughing as I re read it now!!

The Lumia 640 for $30 is one of the best values in wireless, if you don't allow the ecosystem of Windows on mobile to deter you that is. If you are looking for a phone that can make and receive calls, handle PIM functions well, and has great battery life the 640 is it.

Best Buy still has Cricket-branded 640's for $29: nokia lumia 640 - Best Buy
Only caveat: You cannot unlock them until they've been used on Cricket for 6months. I've seen people around the web post about success with third party unlock sites; your mileage may vary.

The problem is that a lot of people are turned away from the ecosystem. There reasoning... Lack of apps. Ironically, most of them can find the very apps they use in the store.
