Hello everyone,

I decided to switch carriers as my previous one has been horrible since they changed from a sub-entity to the parent company. Well, the new carrier is sending me a free Lumia 650 for porting my number over. My Windows Phone usage goes like this:

Lumia 720 - for 1 month
Lumia 521 - For 1 1/2 years
Blu Win HD LTE - For 2 months
Alcatel Fierce XL - For 4 months (current)
Soon Lumia 650

I'm wondering if anyone has the Fierce and how does it compare to the Lumia 650. I just do the basics on phones anymore, honestly. Text, call, and light surfing when needed. I'm trying to determine if I want to go to the insider builds or stay with the release builds. There hasn't been too many differences since Redstone's release.

Thoughts?

You are getting a new phone. Good for you !
I would recommend to first do all the updates (OS and Firmware) via Windows Update. And also important app updates.
Being in the production ring is the best. I don't recommend the Slow/fast insider builds right now. It's buggy. You can try those later.

Cheers !

I think you'll be pleased with the Lumia 650. I haven't had the Fierce but I'm sure that you will appreciate the size difference.

Despite the smaller screen size of the 650, I suspect it will give you more viewing pleasure vs Fierce XL and the camera experience should be better. A slight boost in CPU power as well, but only 1/2 the RAM so it likely evens out. You also loose out on compass and the Fierce XL has 125% the battery of 650.

I've had the 650 in my pocket since Friday. I am also a light user. This phone is definitely for light/moderate users. I can easily get a day from it, but two is highly unlikely.

Holy Nokia! This this is fast. That 200 MHz difference (per core) really makes this thing fast. It's fluid, the loading screens don't appear often at all. It's nice. Granted, its my first day having it, but dang! Its so lite, like physically lite! When I grabbed the box I'm like "shoot they didn't include the phone" cause its that lite. Dang! I'm loving it so far, Glance is by far my favorite feature. That's just so awesome! =D

It's amazing how fluid this device is with SD212.
This is the best Lumia I have owned next to my old 925. It now replaces my 640 XL as my daily driver.

The metal band, light weight, beautiful screen and snappy performance make for a really nice experience .

Too bad there wasn't an XL version of this phone, but the 5" screen is good enough. Slides into a pocket easily.

It's also too bad this is the last Lumia. Will hang on to it for a while. Just hope the features that Lumias have will be licensed to some other OEM's or it's going to be a hard sell for me.

Anyway, enjoy your Lumias folks and the 650 is a worthy release to close out the Lumia line.

Replies aren't going through on the app. Latest os for regular (non-insider) and installed what I needed from the store. Sorry if there are multiple replies

what OS build are you on? how did you set up your new 650?

I'm on the latest public release .321. I had to get out of windows insider to get it even when I was on preview release.

When I got the phone in April I did the set up and then updated all my apps. Just make sure your apps are all up to date when you download the software updates.

I'm not tech savvy enough to try out fast ring on this device...so I stay in the shallow end of the pool..lol. Don't want to take unnecessary risks.

Of the 3 Lumia win 10 phones I had/have; the 950, 550 and 650...the 650 has been my favorite of the three.

It's the perfect phone for my use. It doesn't have features I will never use
(continuum) and the firmware update with DDtW has made this great little device even better.

I will stop cheer leading now. Am very content with the 650.

Microsoft got it right in my opinion with this one.

To update you guys on the phone:

This thing is a champ. It's so lightweight and does everything I need it to do. I've done my homework on this device, play a few games, and the basics.

The camera is great. It's not the best but it does take some damn good pictures if I do say so. It's fast. I charge it once a day, use it for work, and it's just really pleasant to use.

The display is crisp. The colors are bright a d distinguishable. Compared to the Alcatel, the Alcatel was washed and nothing but a fingerprint magnet. This device isn't that way. I don't even see fingerprints on it.

Browsing is slow at times but that's because of the websites. Edge needs a big update on the phones.

Storage. I have put my necessary apps on the main storage as the sd card I have is slow. Things boot quick and it's up and going really quick.

Minor issues. Too long on wifi will require a restart of the phone. Not bad but just kind of annoying, but hey Android had that issue too.
Sound is good. The front speaker concept is great, but sometimes not too loud. The headphone jack helps with that though.

Finally, cricket is fast for data. I'm happy very happy with this phone. My mom actually wants one now.

Cricket still hasn't gotten the firmware update that was released about a month ago. That should fix some of the wifi problems. I have the same problem and it is pretty annoying.

That's good to know. We also have been having issues with Comcast overall. :-/ I will watch for that firmware update. Thanks for letting me know there should be one out to help with that.
