I was thinking the other day when I first heard about Lumia 640 & Lumia 640XL at MWC2015.
Those two phones are gorgeous with their uniquely designed polycarbonate body and also the screen.
On one had Lumia 640 has a pretty not-so great spec:-
  • 5' 720p screen(294 PPI)
  • Gorilla Glass 3(ClearBlack Display)
  • 1.2Ghz Quad-core Snapdragon 400
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 8MP Rear Camera and 1MP Front Camera
While on the other hand Lumia 640XL has some upgraded spec
  • With 5.7' inches 720p screen(lowered PPI upto 259)
  • also 13MP rear camera with carl zeiss optics & 5mp front camera

I really liked the Lumia 640XL alot but I am not comfortable with screen size the company is offering.
That's when I thought about "Lumia 740".

As all we know that "Lumia 730" was "The Best Mid-Range Phone Of 2014" uptill now.
Lumia 730 is really device in which you immediately fall in Love at first sight with really stunning O-LED display and Camera.

So Microsoft needs to build a phone better than its predecessor "Lumia 730".
This are the my opinions/expectations for Lumia 740.
  1. 5/5.3 inches O-LED screen same as Lumia 730 with 720p display.
  2. Corning Gorilla Glass 3(Clearblack Display) 300+ PPI
  3. 2 GB RAM
  4. 8 GB Internal(expansion SDCard Slot upto 128GB)
  5. 1.7GHz and 1.0 Ghz Cortex A53 Quad Core Snapdragon 615 processor
  6. Adreno 405 GPU
  7. 13MP Rear Camera Zeiss Optics and 8MP Front Camera
  8. Dolby Surround Sound Integration
  9. 2800 mAh Battery
  10. Bluetooth 4.0LE
  11. USB 3.0 or USB TYPE-C(if supported)

All these specs will make a great phone in Mid-Range Phone of 2015
I also wanted MS to launch this device running Windows 10 but after launching a Flagship device Windows 10 on it.

What do you guys think? Did I miss something in these specifications mentioned above?

Nah, I don't think they will use SD 615 on 740, its reserved for higher end models like 840 I reckon.
SD 410 is probably the best bet on a 730 successor.
Also they can't achieve 300+ PPI on a 5" screen unless they make it Full HD or adopt a resolution like 1366x768 which is not supported by WP.
Otherwise ur pretty spot on with the specs.

This thread would be more appropriate under the Concepts & Dream Devices forum, rather than here. This isn't a true confirmed upcoming or rumored device.

If possible SD 615 will be on bet.
If not I think SD 415 will be the best processor for mid-range device like Lumia 740.
SD 415 is almost similar to SD 615 if not considered single channel 32bit memory technology.
And as far as screen is concerned,I also think it might not be 300+ PPI(I'm guessing 294).

SD 410 is also a great CPU but it was released back in December 2013(Almost 1 year ago.)

But its only now starting to make it to the market. And just like it I don't think SD 415 will hit the general consumer market till Q4 2015 and judging by usual slow adoption of new processors by WP I guess we will only see it in early 2016 phones like the 650.

Yes,It's good point that processors may took time or two to sit on a phone's module after their launch.
A Windows Phone which appeared in MWC has a Snapdragon 410 CPU on board called Coship X1.
The Coship X1 is a premium feeling, water-resistant Windows Phone | Windows Central

Apparently,Lumia 640 and Lumia 640XL was also launched in MWC but with Snapdragon 400 CPU on it.
Microsoft needs to upgrade their hardware first before focusing on software Operating System.
Windows 10 will be great as we see some from certain leaks hovering over internet but it needs to perform well which could be possible if MS puts latest hardware on it.

And I know,Lumia 640/XL comes with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 which may be the reason why MS put SD400 in first place.

So lets hope Lumia 740 would come with SD410 and Windows 10 both on board.

I'm not interested again buying the same SoC 400. Windows 10 has universal app hence I think it needs more specification. I hoping for SoC 425 chipset.it supports upto 1.7ghz, @933mhz 1gb ram, dual isp for image sensor.1080@60fps. I think this is the best for the windows lumia 740 to buy. I think it is an value for money. 5"720p 12mp carl zeiss. better sensor for good photos. 2600mah battery with fast charging.sturdy build quality.

May be Lumia 740 better come with snapdragon 610 processor with sturdy build quality, nice design, full HD display and aluminum smooth frame as in Lumia 830, with retail price upto 350 US $

Lumia 740 should have
5" screen with 720p resolution
Ips LCD clearblack with puremotion display... Gorilla glass 4 protection.
Unibody design, it should have capacitive buttons like old lumia not on screen buttons..... It should have dedicated camera button. Glans screen feature.
Upgraded CPU like snapdragon 410, 610 or 615
2 Gb ram( 1gb will also fine)
16 Gb internal storage
sd card expansion upto 128 Gb
main camera with 16 mp duel led flash.... Zeiss optics f2.0 aperture.
5 mp front cam. Otg, wifi direct ,etc. connectivity.

Probably it's a rumors ocean......its hard to predict Microsoft's mind....so enjoy your dream devices...me too.

Some of you are expecting way too much from the Lumia 740. It's the solid mid-range, it won't encroach on flagship territory by any means. That will be the 840's job.
The Lumia 740 will most likely come with a Snapdragon 4xx series SoC, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 720p HD screen, a slightly improved camera set up over the Lumia 640...basically it'll be a shinier, nicer looking, slightly better version of the 640.

I'm hoping that the 740 will have the same specs as the 640XL but just upgrade the SoC to 6xx.

Then the 840 can upgrade the camera to PureView.

I heard the rumour of HD 720p display with 8 gb Rom and 1 gb Ram with Snapdragon 210 processor, Lumia phones coming of Q4 2015 in sub-100 $ category, then why Microsoft can't put 1080p display, 16 gb Rom and 2gb Ram with Snapdragon 610 processor in smartphones in the price range of 300$ ?

Because that's not the job of the Lumia 740 (if it will even exist). You can't have hardware cross like that. There has to be defined lines to differentiate between the different devices. Nokia didn't understand that, Microsoft does. The 840's job is to bridge the gap between mid-range and high-range, while the 740's job is to be mid-range and nothing more. Not even particularly high mid-range.
But all that's beside the point, because there might not even be a Lumia 740.

If the oled screen used in 730 is the reason for it not supporting glance, maybe they can use a different display.
it's because they used a 'cheap AMOLED' display (with low display memory) to save costs. The technology is used in the 1020, 820 and 925 too. No problems with glance on those phones.
