Lumia 830 viewing angles are not too good.

Hi! I've just picked up a Lumia 830. We all know lumia 830 has an IPS display which provide extremely wide viewing angles. But the display on my phone isn't really good. You can see the screen washing out at this angle (pics). So do you guys have the same problem? If you don't, I think I have to exchange my phone :(WP_20150313_001.jpgWP_20150313_003.jpg

Well you're showing it from the worst possible angle for this phone.... diagonally sideways. Yes, it's not great from that angle. But straight from the sides, top, or bottom... it's crystal clear.

I know it's not a good angle but I have a Lumia 720 with me and the view is good from all angles.

Yes, optimal viewing angles on this display are narrow. On the other hand, a display that radiates equal amounts of light in a wider angle requires more battery power. Considering that 99% of the time that is just wasted energy, since you're the only person looking at your screen, that may not be a bad thing.
My main issue with the screen, particularly since denim, is that sometimes at night it's way too bright.

To bright? Even when you set it in your brightness profil to minimum?

If i do that my screen starts to flicker. Thats the only thing i dislike so far.

Yes. Even when set to minimal it's still extremely bright, although I'm only experiencing that since the update to real Denim. I first thought the ambient light sensor might have crapped out, but that shouldn't play a role when brightness is set manually.

I don't notice any flickering though. Weird.

Those viewing angles are horrible, there's no easy way to put it. If Microsoft was going to go the inexpensive 720p route, they could have at least used a quality panel.

I have no issues with the reduced viewing angle in diagonal directions. To reduce light reflection a tilt down or upward doesn't affect the clarity as hasasimo commented already.

Your definition of quality may not match others. At least in this case it doesn't match mine.

I'll gladly sacrifice largely useless wide viewing angles, for longer battery life. IMHO that IS a higher quality panel.

At this display size, resolutions above 720p would also just be wasting battery power and GPU performance for no noticeable benefit.

What I'd find far more important is better contrast, better black levels, and lower brightness at night.

The 735 has all of those. I feel bad for switching to an 830. Battery life sucks. The screen isn't as good, blacks are greyish etc.

I got both handsets...totally agree that the screen is more vibrant on the 735. Its just better. However the battery life comment is a mystery to me. Finding the 830 is slightly better in that dept although there isn't much in it to be fair. GSMarena battery test backs that up too. Perhaps you have a dodgy battery in your 830?

Strange. The 735 battery always lasts longer than the 830. Which seems to head straight to hell upon switching it on

^ What does straight to hell mean? I can watch videos for a whole day on the 830. Under normal usage the 830 lasts me two days. It's been a long time since I've had a smartphone last as long as the 830.

Exactly what it sounds like. It drops consistently fast

Definitely sounds like you might have a faulty unit there. 830 battery life is pretty good in my experience as well as according to various reviews and tests. We cant all be wrong, can we? I'd get it looked at...
