Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

So are people restoring from a back up or setting up as a new device?

In general, when experiencing battery issues, you will want to set up as new device. Restoring from backup essentially clones whatever you have on your phone now, namely settings, which is what you are trying to get rid of. This goes for pretty much all smart phones.

I've been attached to my 920 since 8am, downloading apps, playing games, texting, making phone calls, checking email (Gmail and Exchange), browsing Facebook, WPCentral, and Engadget all while on WiFi, and I finally hit 10% battery. I left auto brightness on, turned off NFC and location services.

It definitely lasts longer than my old Droid Charge (and lets me do much more).

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

SO I am on my second Lumia (traded for a different color, battery was fine on the first) and have noticed that the little GPS dot inside a circle icon is almost always lit up. Phone has been off the charger for two hours, no background apps, and I have received six texts and sent two. That is literally all I have done on the phone thus far. Battery level... 70% (in the time it took to post this I am down to 67%). Any suggestions?

Here is a screenshot below...

It is not normal to have GPS icon up without any apps running ... maybe you have some apps that does NOT switch off GPS properly, when you close that apps, so I suggest to try find out that unproperly working apps ... I think that your battery is OK, but GPS eat it (some is pretty normal) ...

Yeah, that's what I figured. Is there a list of "problem" apps or am I stuck trying to delete apps one by one until the issue is resolved?

So is auto brightness a battery saver or sucker on this phone?

I think that it is some US apps (not international one, I do noot think that any Microsoft or Nokia apps do that), some is using location service - but there is really many apps that use it (like weather and newspaper apps) ...

Just asking that if you push "Back" button for long time, to see all opened apps - can you see any open apps there ? ... it could be there (if it does not sleep properly) ...

About background task (settings - applications - background task), check them too, to close all unnecessary background task ... but there is not need to close Nokia Drive + beta, as it seems working properly ... if you disable Nokia Drive + beta background task, then you just disable it working on the background during multitasking ...

Hope that I can give you some idea to fix your problem ... a battery life of Lumia 920 is great, when all is properly working ... just be careful with all 3rd party apps ...

I do not think so ... even I am using "medium" brightness, instead of automatic ... I really like bright screen - it looks great with medium brightness setting ...

I would agree but that thought struck me after I told it to restore so I told her lets give it a day or two to see how it is. We didn't end up having to reset as new. The restore seemed to restore all of her settings including the customized start screen. I can't tell you want in hat process fixed but I'm glad it did.

I factory reset mine before I even started using it and its been great from day 1.

As far as holding the "back" button down, I pretty much do that religiously now since I noticed battery issues. I never leave anything left running anymore, or at least not the last two days.

As far as background tasks, here is what I have "allowed":

* Battery Level (this is something I just recently installed since the battery issue started so it is not the cause. At best it hurts the battery worse, but is not the issue)
* BBC News
*CNN
*Groupon
*Metrotube
* Nokia Drive+
*Weather
*WPCentral
*Yelp

Interestingly, this was my exact setting on the phone I had previously (minus Battery level, see above), but I am not sure what the deal is. I may try a restore, I just don't want to have to deal with the spinning cogs of death screen. :(

None of them really need to work on the background ... if a live tile is important for weather or some news, then you have to let a such apps work on the background ...

Honestly, I would disable all of them first and then RESTARTING cp too (it is important in some cases, but usually no need for any reset, just restart) ... and then, enable them one by one (just 1 background task every day - maybe a weather apps first, to ensure that a weather live tile has the right data) ...

You will propably have a better battery life starting from day 1 ... of course, you have to look that GPS icon will not pop up again (except if you are using some apps some is using it, like Nokia Maps and Drive+ beta, but GPS icon should be gone, after switching off that apps) ...

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I have been noticing the GPS thing... but turning off several background apps has helped a lot...

I will say this though... I got my charging pad and I noticed that 1.. it charges really quick. 2... Battery life seems to be better off the wireless charger.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

have you tried restarting your phone yet?

if you have, what about going into Settings > date+time > Set automatically Off ?

Reset and set it up as clean. Should I see an improvement immediately or after 2-3 deep charge cycles?

RE: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I'll run it into the ground, which at this rate will be in about 15 minutes.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Definitely something wrong with my battery. I've had my 920 since launch and the first day or two it seemed fine; maybe draining slightly quicker than I'd like but I was playing with the phone quite a bit. A few days later I noticed quick draining in standby mode so I turned off some background apps and NFC. Seemed to work fine but every now and then, standby battery performance is terrible. I can lose 20% in 1 hour.

I also noticed that sometimes the top rear will get extremely warm while using the phone and/or charging. On two ocassions I've had the phone stop charging after a while, once on the USB cable and another on the wireless charger. I've already reset the phone a few times when I first got the phone. Hope a future firmware update solves this problem.

Most phones get warm if you're doing something CPU intensive. The battery is my only problem really.

This is basically my story too. :(

Yeah my phone gets quite hot when charging as well. It too stopped while it was plugged in to the USB. It did not stop working, but it stopped charging

Alright. For the sake of testing I turned off backgrounding on literally everything. Phone is charged to full before I go to bed, but will leave it off the charger. I am interested in seeing how much idle battery drain I get.

Anything more than a top off and wireless charging makes my phone hot. USB it's nice and cool.

My battery life has been pretty good for a smart phone. I'm in a 4G no LTE area.
