Lumia 920 reviews

The 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ IPS capacitive touchscreen display is one of the first that allows you to use it while wearing gloves.Other highlights of the smartphone that I would like to mention are the wireless charging feature and the Nokia Music service, as well as the multitude of connectivity options such as 4G LTE, NFC, GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS, and dual-band Wi-Fi.Although there are quite a lot of things missing from Windows Phone platform, the operating system has been optimized to work smoothly on not so top-notch hardware configurations. My Nokia Lumia 920 has yet to freeze or reboot, which proves that Microsoft worked hard to offer a good product.images.jpeg

Re: impressions over the first 24 hrs

Do not buy.
After 6 months with the phone I watched Nokia admirably do all they could to make up for Microsoft's shortfalls with WP8 to no avail.
The default web browser mangles almost any page you visit to unusable states, You cannot set a VPN or a static IP, the music player doesnt let you edit or even easily create playlists. Task management is shoddy, multitasking nonexistent and the app scene really is beyond woeful.
Facebook integration and usage is barely usable.

On the hardware side the phone is uncomfortably heavy. It really is, and its prone to slipping out of your hands, It's nearly impossible to use in bed.
Also after 2 software resets it appears its high contrast mode for direct sunlight and high touch screen sensitivity remain on even when turned off.
Music playback is muddy throughout the mids and not quite loud enough. The player itself is disgustingly bad with no way to search for songs or make or edit playlists and even its touted cloud sync sucks if you like obscure bands that aren't already on xbox music.

I have since moved to an xperia z and the overwhelming amount of satisfaction and freedom I feel is shockingly overwhelming.
Please, Dont buy this phone. Or any other wp8 handset yet. They are really woefully not ready for prime time yet and it's entirely Microsoft's fault.

Here's my review.
Coming from a line of Windows Phone 7 devices (Omnia 7, Optimus 7, Lumia 800, Titan), I was looking at Nokia for the release of Windows Phone 8. I been in love in the OS design for a long time now, and combined, with was by now obvious, a strong app support I firmly decided that the920 is a must have.
Reading up on WP8 put my down a bit as it turned out. I feely I been the guinea pig through out the WP7 era and I was getting that vibe again. A backup plan and a hard fight ensured between L920 and Galaxy Note II before finally setting for a new Windows Phone, a black Lumia 920. So now, 8 month later, what is my view of the device? Here it goes:
Exterior: While Nokia Lumia phones have a strong reputation for durability I can now say that yes, the phone might take a beating or two, but it turned ugly very fast. The plastic is somewhat rugged in lack of better words and there is signs of tiny scratches. Compared to my Titan, that still looked like new when i gavs it to my mom, this is horrible and I feel a bit dissatisfied.
Inside: Well, by now the enormous heat issues isn't a secret anymore and with new cool games I sure had my fair share of burns. Also the depletion of the battery while still plugged in the wall when stressing the phone with tasks, is really making me angry and regretful about my choosing.
Apps: Nokia apps was a good reason for me to choose a Lumia phone and there here and there rather decent. How ever Windows Phone and GPS accuracy have made me regretting somewhat my purchase. Its not the end of the world but its competing OS's is more superior. Also, Here Drive, the built in GPS navigator by Nokia is having way to outdated maps to be of any use. The best Nokia app is Creative studio, it is so wonderfull you can almost forget the other apps. That is, if you like pictures.
In the end Nokias exclusive games is the thing that makes up for the lack of the quality apps. Nokia is definitely having some good apps but there really not there yet.
The OS: If there is a thing I miss from my old WP7 days in this phone its stability. The quality of the OS isn't as optimal as its old friend and that have made me rather disappointed. There are also other issues, as a example, with storage, problems with push notifications, etc, and it is just to many flaws to be denied, fan or not fan. Lumia 920 is in a way a beta product and I have once again turned in to MSFT's lab rat. I have by now also invested a fair amount of money in apps and services and its making it hard to just leave so im for the moment stuck in this love and hate relationship on a 2 year contract. The phone is currently on its second repair and I have no illustrations its about to become magical better. The Lumia 920 is here and its for good and bad.

Talking about bad, is there nothing good with the Lumia 920? Ofcause there is. WP8 is looking spanking on the screen and the camera is fantastic.
Nokia have done a good job with a typical, not finished, MSFT product and I i can do is hope it gets better. ticking and the lack of updates to fix issue

[BOX][/BOX]I've had my 920 for a couple of months. I came from Android (Galaxy S3). Here are my thoughts:

Build Quality
The 920 has amazing build quality. I got a black one because I wanted matte, and it looks and feels amazing. The construction of the whole device screams quality. I love the heft and the curves. It feels like it cost a lot of money. My Galaxy S3 always felt like a toy.

Software
I have always been intrigued by Windows Phone. I loved Windows 8 pretty much from the start, and I was very keen to give the phone OS a try. In many ways its a better OS than the PC version. Windows Phone feels more polished, more finished. I love the 3 tile sizes. Its amazing how customizable and configurable the Start Screen is. The OS is very clean and smooth. No Android lag. I'm pretty impressed so far.

Apps/Games
I'm not one of these people who needs every app. I think the app catalogue is good, and its constantly growing. I can't wait for Flipboard to arrive though. Nokia have done a wonderful job supporting and fleshing out the OS. People gripe about 'exclusive' apps, but at this point, Nokia kind of ARE Windows Phone, aren't they? There is one glaring omission in the 920's software ; I want a darn clock tile.

Camera
I rave about this camera. It is really good, but you have to use it correctly. It is amazing with lowlight performance. My Galaxy S 3 had a very good camera too, but I think the 920's is superior.

I'm a happy camper

clock tile, timeMe has a developer edition (www.arnoldvink.com click on projects) that updates on the minute, you can now sideload a couple apps if you download Microsoft's new app builder app if I'm not mistaken.

I paid the $19 for the developer account when it first went on sale. TimeMe is an awesome clock tile app , on par if not better than the HTC offering

Dear all,
Just received my L920 exchange it from galaxy note 2..
I already try all os from IOS, android and now WP8, and WP8 are first experienced that im exicited to explore.
Im optimist WP8 are gonna be an great OS when time comes, just like android when first came not many like this OS but when times comes (this days) they are booming.
Basically all stisfied but im hoping notif center and all notification should be more fluid..
And when path, BBM, and picsart apps are arrived in WP8 then this L920 are perfect!

Just recieved this cover for my white 920 and boy, it looks awesome on it. Silver theme on phone goes on so well with this white and black cover.

Thanks, that is what i thought. Most of the time I'm in formals, so it stays nicely protected in the inside pocket of my coat. ;)

Love my 920. Best phone I have had by far. Besides a couple missing apps the 920 blows the IPhone 5 out of the water. Windows operating system on a phone is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Camera with all the downloadable lenses is great. Seamless uploads with SkyDrive. Linked email all in one place is great, was super easy to set up. Xbox on the phone is great my 15 year old son is super jealous about this feature. The only app that I am missing at this time is the Instagram app, but I can live without it. Reception is great, volume is great, music is great, streaming videos are great and really fun and easy to set up with all the how to videos. Had one issue since I had the phone with a screen lock up but fixed in ten seconds with a soft reset. Hold down volume button and power button at same time for 10 seconds and it worked like a charm. I would definitely recommend this phone for both new phone users and expert phone users.

You can use "Instance" for Instagram, it's a great app to post and view pics on instagram service ;) Glad you feel great about the change, I've just switched to a 920 from a S4 and couldn't be happier.

Microsoft should be promoting the integration of services along with supreb cam for lumia 920. I just love the way when i change the pic on my phone's me tile, it updates the same on facebook and the pc simultaneously.

Re: impressions over the first 24 hrs

Coming from BlackBerry there were a few things I preferred with WP.

- More apps
- Easier to sync with MS services
- Better camera and display

What I didn't like was

- Hate the lack of consistent capital letters in titles
- Clunky email client compared to BB

Re: impressions over the first 24 hrs

Nokia gets all kinds of dap for their cameras (rightfully so), but I don't think they get enough credit for their screens. The screen on the 920 is fantastic. Bright, accurate, sharp... awesome. I had an 8X (briefly) before my L920 and I hated it. The screen was so dim, and it was the only screen I have ever had which made me notice viewing angles. If you aren't looking straight on the 8X (at least my particular device), the screen was useless. I found myself missing the screen on the L810- even though the resolution is much higher on the 8X.
I played around with a L1520 in an ATT store recently and the screen was amazing. I played around with the competition (Note3 and Optimus G) but was mesmerized by the L1520 screen.
