Here's my review.
Coming from a line of Windows Phone 7 devices (Omnia 7, Optimus 7, Lumia 800, Titan), I was looking at Nokia for the release of Windows Phone 8. I been in love in the OS design for a long time now, and combined, with was by now obvious, a strong app support I firmly decided that the920 is a must have.
Reading up on WP8 put my down a bit as it turned out. I feely I been the guinea pig through out the WP7 era and I was getting that vibe again. A backup plan and a hard fight ensured between L920 and Galaxy Note II before finally setting for a new Windows Phone, a black Lumia 920. So now, 8 month later, what is my view of the device? Here it goes:
Exterior: While Nokia Lumia phones have a strong reputation for durability I can now say that yes, the phone might take a beating or two, but it turned ugly very fast. The plastic is somewhat rugged in lack of better words and there is signs of tiny scratches. Compared to my Titan, that still looked like new when i gavs it to my mom, this is horrible and I feel a bit dissatisfied.
Inside: Well, by now the enormous heat issues isn't a secret anymore and with new cool games I sure had my fair share of burns. Also the depletion of the battery while still plugged in the wall when stressing the phone with tasks, is really making me angry and regretful about my choosing.
Apps: Nokia apps was a good reason for me to choose a Lumia phone and there here and there rather decent. How ever Windows Phone and GPS accuracy have made me regretting somewhat my purchase. Its not the end of the world but its competing OS's is more superior. Also, Here Drive, the built in GPS navigator by Nokia is having way to outdated maps to be of any use. The best Nokia app is Creative studio, it is so wonderfull you can almost forget the other apps. That is, if you like pictures.
In the end Nokias exclusive games is the thing that makes up for the lack of the quality apps. Nokia is definitely having some good apps but there really not there yet.
The OS: If there is a thing I miss from my old WP7 days in this phone its stability. The quality of the OS isn't as optimal as its old friend and that have made me rather disappointed. There are also other issues, as a example, with storage, problems with push notifications, etc, and it is just to many flaws to be denied, fan or not fan. Lumia 920 is in a way a beta product and I have once again turned in to MSFT's lab rat. I have by now also invested a fair amount of money in apps and services and its making it hard to just leave so im for the moment stuck in this love and hate relationship on a 2 year contract. The phone is currently on its second repair and I have no illustrations its about to become magical better. The Lumia 920 is here and its for good and bad.
Talking about bad, is there nothing good with the Lumia 920? Ofcause there is. WP8 is looking spanking on the screen and the camera is fantastic.
Nokia have done a good job with a typical, not finished, MSFT product and I i can do is hope it gets better. ticking and the lack of updates to fix issue
