Lumia 950 front camera, any tips for better selfies?

Lumia 950 front camera

Dear all,

First of all: Happy Christmas! Hope you all showed the Apple fanboys in your families how good a Windows life is!

I just got my Lumia 950 and I've been fighting with the front camera. Coming from a 930 I expected some reasonable or good selfies, but they aren't as good as expected.
Anyone got some tips or maybe a good app?

Hi

I've tested the FFC indoors yesterday and discovered how appalling the results are! Ultra-softened, details are lost, ISO is too high, etc. And I said to my aunt "No let's take my 950, it has a 5MP FFC" as she wanted to use her iphone lol.

Back to home, I've tested my 535 (10586.36), 5S and 950 (latest FW, 10586.29)

535 is actually better ! Even the low-resolution 5S gives better results, where I can see details, skin grain, etc.

I think the algorithms are the cuplrit on the 950.

My quick fix is: set the ISO manually to 100 or 200. You'll improve the image quality.

But it's appalling that my 79€ Lumia 535 shoots better selfies than my 600 € 950!

Thanks! I'll try messing around a bit. I had a Lumia 720 once and that took awesome selfies, but the 950 is a bit disappointing [even the main camera]. If anyone has other tips: please give!

Make sure you're using 4:3 aspect ratio. The sensor is 4:3 and shooting in 16:9 results in a zoomed in picture with loss of resolution. It gets better in 4:3 but it's still bad though.

However there's a bug in the camera app making it impossible to set different aspect ratios for the two cameras. It's the same AR for both.

low light selfies are terrible. It looks like it's recognizing faces and focuses, but an object in the background 10 meters away has the same amount of detail as your face.
