Lumia storage problem! Must Read!

:smile: Hi, I'm a newbie at wpcentral. But no time for introduction so lets just cut to the chase. Many of us have been facing serious issues with 'OTHERS' folder which uses a lot of unnecessary space thereby resulting in loss of phone memory. You may have found its solution i.e. by clearing some space with the help of 'STORAGE CHECK' or 'LUMIA STORAGE CHECK'. But even if you clean up a bit there is still some temp files which cannot be cleaned resulting in increase in 'Others' folder. Have you ever wondered why? Its because of the 'Windows Phone Store'. I updated my LUMIA 620 to '1308', the latest firmware because of which all my apps and datas were erased. But I've noticed that WHEN I USED THE WINDOWS PHONE STORE on my lumia 620 the TEMP FILE INCREASED. At first it was like 1.6MB, on accessing the windows phone store for around 15 mins it increased to 2.1mb, I couldn't find the reason. I used the phone store again for 5 mins and now the temp files have increased to 2.5mb. This tells me that the browsing history of phone store is kept in 'others' folder and it cannot be cleaned. On checking the 'Others' folder under 'phone storage', just ONE CLICK ON PHONE STORE increases the others folder size to around 0.80mb. Check it out for yourself! Surely, this is a serious problem, eating the space without any reason. Please anyone having this issue or has got any solution to it, kindly reply to this post! Thanks!

as far as i know minimum TEMP File is 500mb. i don't really sure about this but isn't every phone and os need to store some TEMP File? i mean it can be some cached for faster use next time you open an app or something. I no expert in WP this is just my theory

thanks for the reply, actually i use lumia 620. I think the 500mb you are talking about is 'Others' folder under 'phone storage'. temp file can be seen with the help of storage check. Whenever i browsed on my store it ate up some of my space. If it was to be cached then it would have done it at once, i mean on my first access. this is confusing! :/

my temp folder size is 2.2 GB...
dont know what to do with this...not able to clean the temp files....results in low phone memory.
total OTHER FILE=3.4 GB

there's a tip that works for some people (me included) and i think it's worth trying if you didn't already!

delete IE history! check "other storage" before deleting, then after check it again to see if there was any improvement!

it works for me, always clear some good amount of space!

On my L822, my Other was 9.5GB, then shrunk to 8.99GB after deleting IE history (this is all after running Shrink Storage). So there is clearly a nice chunk back, but Other still takes up a lot on my phone.
