Many incoming calls don't show contact name

I had this happening on my 830. It turns out that the numbers stored in your People Hub app are not matching the incoming phone number. For example, the number saved in my People Hub is (123) 456-7890, but the incoming number is +1 (123) 456-7890. Once I changed all my stored phone numbers to match the incoming phone number format, names from my People Hub app appeared when receiving texts or phone calls and properly grouped text messages. Microsoft's mobile FAQ #FA139002 explains it (sorry I can't post links).

Hope this helps.

I am having the same problem. I recently replaced my dying Nokia Lumia 735 with a Microsoft Lumia 640. Everything went smoothly. My Microsoft Account automatically did everything. Only problem now is incoming calls from Contacts do not display callers name (and photo if applicable). The same applies when looking into call history. So I only know the caller's number which is not very satisfactory especially since about 2003 on every smart phone I have had it has been the norm that the incoming callers name comes up.
Curiously there is no such problem with texts. The texter's name comes up. Again this is what one expects. The fact that this is working for incoming texts and not for incoming phone calls is a complete mystery.

I read some of the comments here and tried one that seemed to be fairly simple. This was the suggestion that the formatting of the number may be the problem. So I tested this out on four of my regular contacts telephone numbers. All my contacts are in the format +61 412 562997. I changed the format to 0412 562997. Calls from these four now show the callers name and photo (where there is one) and write the caller name to call history. So things are working how I am used to and how they should work.

Down side is that I have hundreds of contacts. I balk as the enormous task of deleting thousands of +61s and adding thousands of 0s.

The people I got the phone from (new) are saying send the phone in. They are going to wipe it an install new (?) software. Scary!

I just found an easy solution.
Yes this happens because of country code and region mismatch which you can easily replace all of them in a csv file.
I exported my contacts from google account and did a find and replace for my country code with zeros. I used gedit but you can use any text editor to do this.
Hope it solves your problem.
