Mary Jo Foley on GDR2 and GDR3

I sincerely hope we get some surprises in GD2 that they're just not mentioning.

You won't get any. Microsoft is doing the slow and steady approach it seems. I don't really mind, mostly because I bought my phone knowing what it could and couldn't do.

FM is really good and all that is coming with it in GDR2 update. but a few smaller things such as an option to turn of the toast notification, showing call waiting when the person u r calling is already talking with other person or to elaborate the privacy sector like call blocking options and stuffs could have been very useful, i mean every other smart phone has these and i think these are very basic things even for phones with low grade OS. If we had to wait for WP8 Blue update which would take next year to come for these tiny but really useful common options its really going to be frustrating.

Im wondering what the deal is having both a WinRT and a WP platform to deal with. These two should just combine together. Cuz it seems like the vision for WP is to get to the RT state....(since the whole convergence deal they want one operating system for everything). They're basically doing the same things.....

Another thing, the app folders dealy which was a requested feature (dunno how significant)....they already have the groups implementation In the people hub. They could just do the exact same thing for the app list. create a custom app group, then pin it to start, problem solved in that regard......

Just the fact that desktop/tablet are in landscape mode and phone in portrait mode should tell you that they will never truly run the same apps.

Why not? An apps 20% snapped view would port to a phones portrait screen just fine. And the other 80% in landscape even, if they wanted get fancy. Ubuntu already showed this js what their new OS will do.

Lets hope GDR3 will include a fix for the bugs that are responsible for the unexplainable overheating issues and battery drainage!!And stabilize even more the OS!
