Microsoft Money problems with Windows 10

W

WPCentral Question

Have installed Windows 10 upgrade. Microsoft Money Sunset worked fine with Windows 7 & 8 & supposedly compatible with Windows 10. However, when I try to open Money I now get error message "Money requires Internet Explorer 6 to function properly. Please reinstall IE 6 so these components can be added." I had already installed IE 11 & made it default browser in preference to Edge, & have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Money but same error message.

Other programmes working fine in Windows 10. Money worked fine with all IE versions subsequent to IE6. Wondering if Edge somehow imposing itself on Money rather than letting IE in? Seems impossible to uninstall Edge.

Any ideas?

William.

Type the word Regedit in the area on your taskbar that says "search the web and windows" hit enter
Then follow the steps from Killertunes:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
In the right pane, look for Version registry value.
Modify the value date to 9.11.10240.0.

Hello and thanks for the advice, worked first time, only thing is now the dates are american format rather than the english. Can you advise how to change back to the Date/Month/ Year that I had before the Windows 10 upgrade?

Thanks again for the Help

I have the same problem (Money needs Internet Explorer 6) after the update. Tried downloading and reinstalling several times, got the same message.
If anybody comes up with a solution it will really be appreciated.
I tried the phone to Microsoft and after 2 hours of commercials while the speaker phone was on in the background, I had go somewhere and gave up.

When I try to change the registry entry I get "Cannot edit version:Error writing the value's new contents". Any ideas on how I can fix this? Please advise. I think it has something to do with permissions, but not sure how to fix

Absolutely Brilliant, I've been messing around for a couple of days now to firstly find the money files, then was trying to find an app to open them and transfer to another program. But alas the registry fix enable Money. Thanks again.

One note:
changing this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer is for Windows 64-bit
on Windows 32-bit one has to change this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer", as it was in my case

For those that have been relying on Money Sunset, I would recommend upgrading to Quicken. It isn't free, but I sure wouldn't trust my financial information to software that is no longer being updated.

I f you have used both MS Money and Quicken, then you would understand why an outdated, unsupported version of MS Money is still way better than any version of Quicken.
Quicken still does not have features that MS Money had 15 years ago.

Thank You for this fix. I previously installed Windows 10 only to find that my Microsoft Money program did not work. I did a rollback of Windows 10 as I need to use my Money program every day. Will do another install & I'm hoping everything will be okay.

I have used both. That is why I made the suggestion above. Outdated and unsupported is exactly why I switched and I don't miss it. To each their own...
