Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter & Surface Pro 4

I get the same issue - disconnect the first time. I've got the SP4 - m3. My other issue is that the SP4 doesn't change its resolution to match the TV (1080), so I end up with black bars on the TV. My old Surface 3 with Windows 8 used to do that fine - seems like it's either Windows 10 or SP4. I can manually change the resolution, but it's a pain.

Don''t know if it's the same problem we have, but when I connect my sp4 to my tv, I end up with black bars on the tv. I have to change the sp4 to 1920x1080 and the tv shows fine but now I end up with black bars on the sp4.

I've realized that this only happens in duplicate mode. So, what I do now is simply use second screen only so the sp4 screen is off.

Yup, same issue.

I also discovered that Netflix crashes when connected and running 1080p.

I just read that the next cumulative update coming out soon has fixes for "miracast" - perhaps some help is on the way.

I've been having the same problems that everyone else has been describing, Core i5 here. I surrendered and just bought the Surface Dock today off Amazon (saw they had it for just $130 as opposed to $200 from Best Buy).

10586.494 July update :

"Improved reliability of Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer 11, Windows Explorer, Miracast, and Windows kernel"

Any improvements for anyone?

I am using my Sp4 nearly daily at work with two different WDA (v1 and v2, both with the latest firmware) and I ALWAYS need two trys to connect. First attempt always fails, then I get a yellow error message and the retry works fine. This is so annoying.
Switching channels (5ghz etc.), firmware, drivers haven't changed anything ...
Also i cannot install the latest intel drivers (15.40.25.4463). I get an error message everytime i try.

I'm convinced the problem is with the SP4, not the adapters.

I am a new SP4 owner (new to Windows coming from OSX) and have also purchased the MS Wireless Display Adapter Version 2 (WDA) to connect the SP4 to the TV. I have only used it a few times but I have the following two issues/questions:

1. Every time I tried to connect, the device never connected on the first attempt. I always had to try again to get connected. It does connect on 2nd attempt and once connected, maintains a decent connection. Am I missing some driver/firmware or need to update anything to get rid of the problem? If so, how to I check what I have and if I need a newer version, what version is it and how to update it?

2. Is it ok to leave the WDA connected to the TV all the time? The TV will be used very infrequently (about 2-4% of time) as a display for the SP4, so is it fine to leave the WDA connected and powered all the time?

Thanks in advance.

Same thing happens with me

- fails first time, connects second time. I have a v1 adapter though.

And I don't see any problem with it being plugged in all the time.

Has anyone tested with Build 1607 installed? I wonder if there's been an improvement.

I have only tested it very briefly with the AU. The connection was established on the first attempt and there was no lag. I'll test later with a longer video/film.

Finally got a chance to try it out.

Tried connected five times. On each time it connected successfully on the first attempt. Good sign.

However, the first time I tried to connect my surface was not detecting the display adapter. After I hit connect in the action center it was just searching....searching.... Restarting the sp4 fixed this.

I'm guessing this is similar to PRE-AU when I would be searching and would get a message saying "your device does not support miracast" or something along those lines and restarting would have fixed it. Guess they just removed the error message..

Used it again today.

On the first try it said "Couldn't connect" then it connected on the second try but kept disconnecting. Or would say connected but not display anything on the tv. Restarted the sp4 and it connected seamlessly on the first try.

However I unplugged the adapter but the sp4 was still "connected" had to disconnect.

This was on .51 . The previous attempts (previous post) was not on . 51

Past couple days it seems to have broke. My Sp4 no longer connects.

It just tries to connect and says "Could not connect"

Funny thing is, you know normally on the tv it would say "connecting to ..." .. It doesn't say that. The TV just stays as "Ready to connect"

Next week ill be able to test it in another environment and see...

Tried it in a different environment , same problem....

Is it working for anyone else on the AU?

It has to be something with the surface pro 4 because It connects fine to my phone so at least I know the adapter is working...

Don't have another computer device to try it out with..

I have the SP4 i7 16GB RAM which has a resolution of 2736 X 1824 and a dell monitor with resolution 3840 X 2160.

I get the resolution of 3840 X 2160 with I connect the Dell monitor to my SP4 using the miniDisplayport.

But when I use the MWDA, I can only get 1920 X 1080 max

How can I get 3840 X 2160 on my Dell monitor using MWDA?
