MS Band stacked up against Polar Loop (LONG)

I had a Nike Fuelband and my g/f has a fitbit. I found her fitbit was wayyy overestimating her activity. Hers would show more calories burned from working at home all day than me walking the dogs 4 miles. Just my 2 cents.

I also find the MSBand doing the same. I'll do a separate post on that though.

I wore my fitbit one and my Band all day all yesterday, it was a mostly a rest day with a quick strength session in the afternoon. The workout was tracked with exercise mode on the Band, and was NOT tracked in any special way on the fitbit, was just wearing it as normal.

The fitbit shows that I have burned quite a few more calories, enough for an extra hamburger :) Which one is correct? I don't know. I hope it would be the Band since it is taking more measurements into account, but it does seem kind of low.

If it helps, I am a 32 year old man, 147 pounds, 5'8"

Interesting, I am finding that it underestimates non activity and over estimates activity. I am going to compare it to my Basis B1 tomorrow and see how that looks since they use similar HR technology.

Sleep Comparison

I though some of you would be interested to how the Band tracks sleep compared to the Polar Loop.

They are fairly close, which is interesting since the Polar does not use HR monitoring for sleep tracking. The MS Band has more info and detail, which makes sense. Polar though does not need to be told when to go into sleep mode. I will compare tonight with the Basis B1.

Band is getting that feature too (and Fitbit just started it).

I expect more variation in sleep data due to the arbitrary nature of the algorithms for determining sleep patterns.

Having said that, so far I find the Band's data for sleep to accurately reflect my experience. For instance, last night I know I didn't get much delta wave (stage 3 sleep), but I did have plenty of REM. Band told me that I had no deep sleep, whereas Fitbit could not determine such a thing. I had 84% efficiency whereas Fitbit was 96%--based on how I feel, Band is a lot closer to the truth ;) (aka I feel crappy today).

For me the automatic sleep tracking is not too much of a big deal, as if not putting it into sleep mode - I would need to put it into DND mode.
