Music player contains duplicate songs

Hi , anybody faced this problem that when i transfer songs from my pc to windows phone then sometimes songs list shows multiple enteries of songs . Now if for any song i delete one entry and then try to play other entey then error is shown and song is not playing.

But unfortunately, there's no real solution. As it turns out, any solution proposed so far has shown to be temporary and the problem will reappear. So your best bets are complaining with Microsoft.

Have you updated to GDR2 yet?

I hear it solves the problem.

No there is no update for my phone yet . Lets hope they fix it in next update.

running GDR2 and Vista using the copy option from Windows Explorer, and I see duplicates. Thankfully, we have Win7 and Win8 computers, too...so I'll copy my song library to one of those and sync over with the Windows 8 phone sync app (fingers crossed that this will fix it).

I know this is kinda old but Ive found a solution to this issue. Ive tried the fixes MS gives which just fail. So today I pulled the SD (16GB) from my Nokia520 and plugged it direct into my PC. Right away I could see there was file system corruption and that the phone had made secondary folders (lumping albums into another folder of the bands name hence the duplicates- which was not visible when connecting the phone to PC) When I would try to copy from the SD it would fail with the message "these files are no longer at this location" so I formatted the card on my PC (full format FAT32 allocation size 8192) and then used file explorer to reload it with music. I put the card back in my phone and not a single album is showing duplicates.

Obviously letting the phone format the card and using the Windows app or file explorer with the card in the phone seriously corrupts the file system. So I would suggest for others to stick with formatting on a PC and loading the card then putting it in the phone.

Hope this works for others whove been bashing their head off the wall because of this duplicates crap.

All these tricks work .... until you add one more track. And then the duplicates show up again.
It's very veryy broken. Has been for over a year.

After 2 days having the same issue on my Lumia 720 with Amber update suddenly i had an idea that worked very well and I hope it can help others.

If you want to have your playlists first follow these steps
1) Using Windows Media Player create an empty playlist with the name you need/want.
2) Repeat the step one for every playlist you want to add.
3) Sync using the Windows Phone desktop app, remember this will only sync empty playlist that we gonna need later.

General steps (with or without playlists)
1) Connect your phone and be sure you can see hidden files, then delete all the content from the /Music/albums and /Music/artists folders.
2) Connect your SD card into a card reader and copy-paste your songs in the music folder, it doesn't matter if they have subfolders.
3) Put the SD card back to your phone.

If you are not using playlists, the above steps were all you needed... but if you are
1) Open your phone (not the SD card) and find the /Music/Playlists folder.
2) You will see every playlists you created at the beginning, open the one where you wanna add songs and notice that there's an empty list.
3) Having the SD card in your phone, open the route where the music you want in your playlists is (you may want to open a new file explorer windows).
4) Select all your songs and drag them into the opened playlist in the step 2.
5) Press Accept when it finish and repeat for every playlists.

Well that's all... I know it sounds like a long list of steps but it becomes very fast and easy but also I know this is not a proper solution and I hope MS could fix this once it for all.

Duplicates still showed even after all that. I've tried everything. This is only a fix MS can fix and is beyond our reach.
