sounds like some app lost its mind and is causing a memory leak which in turn is cranking up the cpu and hence the heat issue. Try removing recently installed apps and see. if nothing then, Reset to factory default and see what happens

Mine only gets super hot if I'm: Using the camera, web browsing, gaming, streaming or charging.

Basic tasks shouldn't get the device "hot".
