a couple of days ago , I was texting my friends on whatsapp for an hour . along with that i was listening to music , checking facebook newsfeed and playing tetris from time to time
all that on my lumia 920. Only to notice that the upper region of my phone (above the camera lens) started heating up as time passed to that point when i had to stop what i was doing because the phone was so hot i couldnt hold it in my hands , besides i was too scared that the phone would actually melt :unhappysweat::unhappysweat::unhappysweat::unhappysweat::unhappysweat:
this is pretty frustrating . i dont know whats the solution if there is one .

Probaby a rouge Process got stuck and was jamming the cpu. WP8 bug.

Reboot your phone to kill the process. Nothing to do but wait for an update

I know this isn't an 820 forum. But my 820 has been getting obscenely hot as of late. I thought it may have been due to Angry Birds Seasons (recently purchased). But it doesn't actually happen while playing. It sometimes happens connected to certain WiFi connections. But then it doesn't. If this some kind of OS bug, MS needs to get on this fast as it feels like my phone is going to give me third degree burns

Check your background tasks. I've got 4 available, only two enabled as I use them. Cooled the phone right down. Disable the here drive + beta background process. I mean that. Heard nothing but problems with that app. Disabled it on mine, phone doesn't feel like it will give me second degree burns anymore.

My phone got incredibly hot the other day, to the point the black body actually started changing color and looking weird. Reboot fixed it, haven't had the issue before or since

Lol, I kinda want mine to melt so I can get a new one now that the build quality stuff probably better sorted out! :)

Right now, I would stay away from anything beta. OS is practically beta and it will just compound the problem. Soft reset daily after removing from charger. It will stop hung processes and help considerably.

Will do that from time to time soft reset and ur good.power down and reset is good once in a while

I'm not saying it's the right way but a hot phone hasn't worried me. I haven't rebooted in a couple weeks now and I do plenty whatsapp, Skype.... Currently playing Tanks and Great Big War Game. That last one, if you want to have a hot phone fast, play it for a min or two :)

I just set the phone down when done and it cools down and is fine all by itself.

Asphalt 7 heats up the phone pretty quickly too. I guess that's why they call it heat

This restart thing is not working out to stop the heating of the phone. You have all this fun games and you can't play them because you can't hold the bloody thing. You can't use WPCentral forums to long etc etc.

If Nokia supposed to be this great hardware manufacturer, how come they make a product that burns your hand?

The heat issue. Can it only be solved by going to the store and get it replaced?
I can't play games on this device, Spiderman kills this phone, and have basically uninstalled all apps (inc Drive + and all Nokia apps. Only have here maps left)

Mine start heating up even with 10 -15 mins of browsing over 3G or Wifi and it is frequent but not always. I am clueless about what is causing the problem since everything is the same when the phone behaves normally and when it heats up.

p.s: I haven't restarted the phone but the heating issues occurs randomly.

Mine doesn't get that hot, but about once a week it will heat up a fair amount and the battery will drain extremely quickly. I usually have at least half life at the end of the day and when this happens it will be dead by lunchtime. The only fix I have found is a reboot and then it seems to be fine after that.

Hey everyone , it turns out that the lumia 920 can be stopped from heating up by restarting it as most of you said before , because apparently it gets kind of "stuck"

thanks everyone xx

it is a known fact that 920 heats up on the right top corner pretty fast, esp. while playing games like real football 2k13, asphalt which are a bit graphics heavy, my device also does get real hot (real hot hot) . I keep on using it until it is unbearable and exit the game , no restart done, then start playing again (which I dont like much, but cant do anything) . As for whatsapp I run the app a lot , I haven't faced any issues.
A restart once in a while helps, but I don't know if MS or Nokia see this as an issue. I never read any blog posts or articles regarding over heating.

I have seen some solutions like re intalling or whatsapp update nothing works.

My phone heats up when whatsapp is used i did not know the reason, hence last saturday went to care and complete flush rese the whole phone. while using net evry thig is fine, but when i am chatting with ingle person(bluetooth/wifi/autosunc off plus all back ground tasks disabled), still phone is subjected to super heat day before yeasterday. i thought issue with my piece and going to nokia, before that i have synced face book and did chat with three friends chat simultaneously only little warm is observed.

whatsaap chat gets super heated in my lumia 820.
