Updated to WP 8.1 and have a couple of issues. I was experiencing crazy battery drain until today when someone suggested to change email accounts from "as items arrive" to manually check every 30 minutes or one hour. I did that and battery use has gotten so much better! Second issue is when I take my phone off the charger, my live tiles stop automatically updating until I soft rest the phone! I don't know why it's doing it but it's gotten annoying. Sometimes, I'll experience the phone getting hot and end up usually doing a soft reset. The problem is, after experiencing WP 8.1 and Cortana and the swipe keyboard and the new store and all the new features, I can't go back to plain old WP 8.0! :(

Wait it out for the battery to settle in.

My 1520 got hot after downloading 8.1, but I did a hard reset immediately after, and the heat was probably from downloading all the apps again. No heat since then.

Sent from my Lumia 1520 using Tapatalk

So I did a hard reset and I am still getting heating issues. Can't pinpoint the cause. I have email set to check 30 mins and location off also. Out of ideas now

@lee kwan kin , please advice how to downgrade the Lumia 1520

Just download the Nokia Software Recovery tool, plug in your phone and follow the instructions

http://download.fds-ncom.nokia.com/...covery/NokiaSoftwareRecoveryToolInstaller.exe

I have restored both my 1020 and 1520 this way with no issues. Two things to be aware of ;

1 it will completely wipe your phone
2 When you first plug your phone in it will tell that it is going to reinstall the firmware that Is already on the phone but of course it cannot do that as the Dev Preview isn't available on the Nokia servers so you will get a clean install of WP8

Hope this helps.

If you have Whatsapp installed, set it to 'not allowed' in Battery Sense regarding background tasks. That one was causing heating problems on my 1520. No problems with Cortana pinned to screen, other apps running in background, mail coming in as items arrive etc etc. For me it was just a Whatsapp issue, but your mileage may vary...

Yea my 1520 heats up like crazy. I also noticed that when it is really hot it is when I unlock my phone it tries to resume an app and sits there for while before returning to the home screen. I wonder if something different is now running in the background constantly.

Exactly, thus is the cause of the heat even on standby. This app is the start screen itself. I almost sure that there is a process that stuck in the background.

I was experiencing this heating issue earlier today. For those who are having this issue after pinning Cortana on the start screen, make sure you go into battery saver and switch the app to off. I'm assuming when you have your gps off, Cortana is constantly trying to find your location. This has helped me so far.

I think you are right.

Try to kill all apps in the background. Keep the location off. Unpin as much tiles from start specially the new ones. Turn off the backup and settings syncing. If the problem still exist try to ALWAYS keep the phone in battery save mode.

Thanks that worked for me. I went back to wp8 as 8.1 was making my 1520 overheat and kill my battery not worth it. I will wait.

Oj dudes, i updated my sweet lumia 1520 today.
Was massivelly impressed with 8.1, until using BLINK camera app -- when i use it the phone gets hot! I tried other camera apps, every one causing the phone to heat up (left upper corner; right upper corner if turned around); but not as much as blink app.

Has annyone got the same problem or even better a solution? :) Other than that the system is sleek in my phone.

Well, there is some hope. Despite getting egg-frying hot on the day that I upgraded my RM-938 to 8.1, it's since cooled down.

I took the phone off the charger this morning at 5:30 at 100%, and now, at nearly 4:00P, it's down to 81%. That's not bad for 10.5 hours of light use.

In that time, I've used the phone to make a couple calls.

My RM-940 came off the charger at 6:15 when I got to work, and all I've used it for since then is the Authenticator app (2nd factor authentication), and it's showing 91%.

While I restricted just about anything from running in the background on the 938, I've left the 940 alone. Both of them seem to be doing just fine, and perfectly capable of staying afloat for a day of occasional use.

I unpinned Cortana from the start screen and uninstalled a battery app I was using and it seems my battery life has improved drastically.

I believe the hotness of the device correlates with GPS usage, and if I'm using an app that uses GPS (facebook, twitter) for a long period of time I it begins to heat up.

Off the charger around 7, its now 2am and I'm at 62% with moderate usage throughout the day (SMS, calls, Bluetooth on and paired)

How do you downgrade after the 8.1? Thank you. I just got mine yesterday, will upgrading and downgrading void the warranty too?

There is no official way to downgrade. THEY EMPHASIZED THIS WHEN YOU INSTALLED.
It's possible I believe, someone else who knows more can fill you in.
As for downgrading, as long as you downgrade to the same flavor (e.g. ATT flavor of WP for an ATT phone) then nobody would know you upgraded.

Turned off location, seemed to help with the heating up of the phone.

Hi All,

I have upgraded my Nokia Lumia 1520 to win mobile 8.1 about 1 week ago. I am happy with the available new features. But yet I face some annoying bugz with it.

1. Phone hung often. Restart it using power key also not working properly on such time.
2. Touch screen is horrible. "Swipe" is detected as "Tap" most of the times and it opens unwanted applications ( this happened in 8.0 too)
3. Some times screen does not unlock with the power button. Also cannot lock it using power button.
4. If you double tap on your gallery photo using two fingers, it will zoom the screen, but you can not zoom out it. when u go to home.all the home tiles also zoomed. You can see huge tiles and huge letters. Restart the device is the work around. So much annoying.
5. I use automatic screen brightness. When I go under sunlight, fb photos and chat photos of other users showing in very very high contrast. ( like a negative)
6. Sometime whole screen goes like a negative for 1-3 seconds and back to normal soon.
7. Sometimes wifi or data network does not work. you need to switch it off and on again to make it work.
8. Most of the time Viber, Gmail, Whatsapp, FB chat lag so slow and hung. you cannot save pics sent by whatsapp sometimes. It shows the download icon, but never download.
9. Notification for most of viber chats are receiving about 15mins later of the real chat appear.
10. FB application is not optimized as wished. No integration of "FEELING" option under posting a status. to see some comments, you need to press icons hardly few times to open.
11. Browser shows the web site is loading and completed loading. But still showing a pure white screen. nothing else. This happens often on chrome and internet explorer too.
12. Yes obviously battery life reduced for like 5-6 hours of standby and phone is hot sometimes.
13. As a summary, most of the applications lags, hungs and super slow. Now also my GMAIL app hung and gonna restart the phone :unhappy:

I am a previous Android user and I miss the fast response of Android OS most of the time. But I still love Lumia design , rich look and Cam quality.

Hope the official win mob 8.1 update will give answers to all of the bugz.

Please share your thoughts if you are also facing these issues.

Double finer double tap again to go out of zoom. Single finger double tap is already enough for gallery, why are u using two?
