My Surface Pro 3 turned off but fan stays on, what should I do?

Surface Pro 3 turned off but fan stays on... help!!!

Hi,

About 20 minutes ago I was on WindowsCentral on my Pro 3, the fan was on and the battery at 6% the Pro 3 then decided to turn off; usually the fan turns off after about a minute or so (depending on how hot the tablet is) anyway, the tablet is now cold and the fan is just barley going (you can just hear it) the backlit keyboard is functional BUT the windows button isn't working and it is unable to turn on (I've tried the 30 second and 2 second method but they don't work).

Does anyone have any suggestions of what I should do? I have had the Pro 3 since February and haven't suffered anything like this before.

I wouldn't worry about the issue unless it happens a coupe more times. Sometimes one-off issues can occur as there are a million different combinations of things that could have caused this.
In the end, holding the power button for 10 seconds will force the computer to turn off (instead of putting it to sleep).

Luckily (after about an hour) the Pro 3 just ran out of battery (I had to apply the 2 sec power, 2 sec off power to turn it on) anyway its alive now (so I won't have to dig out the RT!) and the battery is just at 1%.


Is the problem a regular occurrence, and is there any way to prevent it in the future?

I have an SP3 and have never experienced what you described. Like I said, it may have been one of those weird experiences that never happens again. If I does, I suggest contacting microsoftstore for feedback or instructions.

I had this once before. Removed the keyboard, then a long press of the power button turned everything off.

Are you on RTM (10240) or one of the newer previews? I've had an irritating "fan always running while in use" and "get hot and eat battery while on standby packed in bag" issue since 10547.

Is that for Windows Insider? If so I only installed Windows 10 in August when it was released.
