My mogul should be coming in tommorrow from UPS... not sure if I am ready to switch from a 755P, but I'll give it a try< since the EVDO A / GPS seems cool enough for the switch.

I have many questions unanswered still, being the novice Palm OS user that I am...

1) Read on xda-developers that Sprint changed its proxy for the MMS hack, so is it still working?

2) How is Flexmail nowadays? Working well? I have about 5 email accounts I need pushed, all of them off AOL servers. What are my best option for IMAP IDLE? (and I need to reply from the original AOL address as well)

3) I need a Floating Appointment program, like hobbyistsoftware's "Rollover" for the Palm OS. ---I have yet to find a PIM or workaround for this. Agendus doesnt have a floating event nor does Pocket Informant 8

4) I have a 6700 I've been messing with to get a better feel of the Mogul before it comes, but I HATE the keyboard lights. Its so hard to see the lights at night! Is the Mogul better in regards of keyboard lighting? ---specifically option + numbers (1-0) ...I cant for the life of me see the numbers light with the 6700 keyboard...

Those are my primary concerns for now. Not sure if Im going to keep the Mogul or not, but I sure hope to migrate.. the Palm OS is so outdated ---(but so dam useful!)

I have personally made that jump myself. Whatever software you bought for Palm, check to see if there is a WM version. Then email the company and explain you just bought a new phone and want to know if they will switch your license over to the WM version. Some will for free, some for only a fraction of the original price, some say you have to buy the WM version outright. This a few years ago, but I was surprised at how many just gave me the WM version at the time.

I don't use it as much, so I am probably the best to answer this. See if these help...

Now that they fixed the Blank email issue, Flexmail is back up there as my personal favorite email program for WM.

3) I need a Floating Appointment program, like hobbyistsoftware's "Rollover" for the Palm OS. ---I have yet to find a PIM or workaround for this. Agendus doesn't have a floating event nor does Pocket Informant 8
I don't have an answer for you off the top of my head on this one....but I will keep an eye out.

I like the lights on mine. But with the physical keys not a different color, like the Tilt, the numbers are in Blue. I have never stopped and thought to myself that I could not see anything at night when typing.

If you run into any questions, concerns, or frustrations, don't keep it bottled up. Read some of these beginner guides I wrote first:

How To: Install, Uninstall, and Transfer Files on Windows Mobile
Must Have Windows Mobile Software
How To: Use your WM Smartphone One-Handed
How To: Increase Battery Life on your Windows Mobile Smartphone
How To: Edit the Registry

Then post any question you have here.

Thanks Hobbes, always a good write up from you...Ive been reading many of your WM praise posts, so I understand your standpoint...

I've been reading up on SEVEN's push service.. have you tried this out? Looks simple and effective...not sure if I should go with that or Flexmail.

1. As far as I know, it does not work. However, no2chem is working on an app that will send via email. You just put in the number and select the carrier and it sends MMS for you.

2. I have exchange hosting, so I can't help you there. From what I have read, people still aren't happy with flexmail. There are workarounds out there like forwarding your mail to a free mail2web exchange account.

There is also emoze, but I have no experience with it

3. Not sure on this one. Someone over at ppcgeeks said they use tasks in outlook for a similar result.

4. The keys are very easy to see in the dark for me. I can't compare to the 6700 but the 6800s are very visible.

thanks Guys, always so helpful.

Of course its always better if I hands on test iit first, I'm just getting a "feel" of what Im getting into.

Re: The phone app...is there anything similar to TakePhone? I like the ability to schedule appointments within my call log.

Also, in LightWav, there is a Announce Caller ID feature I like...any progs like that for WinMobile? (no need to announce name...simple "Call From 2-1-3-5-5-5..XXX" something like that so I know whom is calling if the phone is in another room.

Thanks again

Give seven a try - apply for the beta program if you can. It's really great - but only works with Outlook. Seven is actually the software behind Sprint Mail / XPress Mail / Others(?). But the new beta of their push software is pretty slick, works well with IMAP servers.

Got my Mogul today..flashed it with NextVision's Rom..

Working really good so far..and GPS is amazin. (slow to recieve a signal though)

Installed Seven, and it takes like 5-10minutes for an email to come in (my AOL IMAP account)

Its defintely not Push email, but not as real time as I like it.

I am going to try out MobiPush for now..

well, gave the whole Mogul concept a whirl...it isnt for me.

VERY nice phone, does so much more than a treo.. but I need a phone first, pda second..

-slide out keyboard isnt for me
-two handed operation sucks
-treo is more simplistic, and gets the job done.
-WinMo is "laggy" ...not entirely slow, but not as snappy as the PalmOS
-cannot find an email program nearly as customizable as chatter (different smtp profile)

bottom line: Used the Mogul for 3 days, now back to my trusty 755P

There is always a learning curve when changing OS. No matter if it is Palm to WM or WM to Palm. 3 days seems like an awfully quick time to see if your concerns have easy fixes or not or to give a youself enough time to learn the differences between the two OS.

But like I always say, the phone that makes you the most happy is the perfect one.

Upgrading from a 700p to a 700wx took me a good week to get use to it. For the first few days, I was ready to throw the wx against the wall and go back to my 700p. After a week, there is no way I would go back.

My switch was difficult enough, but at least I had the same form factor. You had the form factor and OS difference to deal with. You might be more interested in trying something like the wx or the 800 when it comes out.

Having made the jump from Palm to WM recently (less than 6 months ago) I can tell you it takes a long time just to get comfortable with WM. Both have flaws and strengths - there are times I long for the simplicity of Palm OS but then I remember the deficiencies that prompted me to move on.

I have spent the past few months reading through many boards, hours reading posts trying to understand how to get the most out of this OS. I have downloaded and tried hundreds of programs to see which ones work for me - are there Palm programs I miss? Of course!; are there WM programs I can not live without now? You bet!.

After all this time, I can truly say no one OS is absolutely superior to the other, you have to spend enough time "playing" with each OS to determine which one is better for your particular needs.
