New Surface 2 that can't do anything.

I bought it for taking notes in meetings, making basic sketches, browsing the internet, writing emails, reading PDF documents, listening to music and watching Netflix. ...dunno why I'd want a tablet to run legacy apps. I've got a laptop and a desktop to do stuff like that.

Perfect response! I applaud your graciousness.

I do too. Why do people assume that the person who bought something did not do their homework and then proceed to provide unsolicited advice? If someone asks how to get something to work the default reply shouldn't be to berate their choice and essentially tell them that they did not have the brains to choose the right device for their own needs.

Gotta say, this is a wonderful device when it works. I also noticed that these have since gone up to 299 from 279 on the 'bay. Glad I snagged 'em when I did!

I hope you get a problem-free replacement soon so you can enjoy both devices and get the most out of them.

Glad you are getting a replacement. I've had my Surface 2 for a couple of weeks now and it's a fantastic device. I use mine for viewing Netflix, Plex and Youtube (MetroTube), reading the news and sport, browsing the web (IE is fantastic), as a Kindle, and of course working within Office. I was typing a load of emails on Outlook last night (with the type cover) and it just works brilliantly.

Anyway, I hope you get your replacement S2 sorted. Shout up on here if you need any help or advice.

Got my MS account on! Once date and time was manual, that solved that and the windows activation. FINALLY after several dozen tries I got a firmware update to come up in windows update. Downloading now, hopefully that'll solve the issues. Bought two of these for my small business, hope my partner doesn't go through the same trouble tomorrow...

I had the same problem with my new Surface Pro 3, no idea why it fetched the date and time so wrong, it was off by 1? months and as a result nothing worked, much like you describe.

Thanks everyone - yeah, called Microsoft and they're going to send me a new one, no trouble at all. Hopefully it'll get here quick. :D

My wife has a a brand spanking new iPad from her work, and I can tell she's got a touch of the jelly for my new work tablet. :p Side-by-side apps is pretty freakin' amazeballs.
