No email or text notification sounds

Hi

Ive recently bought a white Nokia 1520, its on the O2 network here in the UK. Ive noticed that I don't get notification sounds when a new email or message arrives. I can change the ring tone or the message alert/email alerts within the settings and although the phone rings as per normal im not getting email/message notification sound, have I missed something obvious?

Do you have "all other notifications" enabled?

I've seen a couple times when text sounds randomly stopped for me, too, when I didn't change anything from the usual. Restarting the phone fixed it.
