No signal detected

Friends, I have a weird problem with my Lumia 520. It is a two months old phone.

This started two nights ago, all of a sudden there is no network detected. I restarted the phone, turned off battery saver but no luck. I now notice that the signal gets detected when I make a call. Sometimes it's successful and the rest it says call dropped. Any ideas ??

Did you try the sim in a different phone?
There are times when i lose signal but there's no coverage over there, so not a big deal.

Remove the sim, (Gently, else you'll damage it) rub the golden part of the sim with an eraser, put it back and switch on the phone.

I tried the sim in another phone, and it works fine.

Okay. I'll get a new sim then. But, not sure how it could be a fault with SIM card.

It isn't working fine with my lumia 520, and works fine with other mobiles.

When you put the other sim into your phone, the phone worked perfectly right? if so that means that your sim that has no signal is probably damaged or faulty.

He put the sim which was not working on 520 in a different phone :/ and it caught signal. Not the other way round.

that now makes sense. He should try it the other way around.

I cleaned the SIM card and put it back in. Voila.
