Hi all i bought a Nokia 635 8.1 this week in the UK from carphone warehouse sim free the phone is ok but im really angry and didn't do any research before buying.

I cant change the APN there are no settings to do this and i have downloaded and installed access point and its not compatible with the operating system windows phone 8.1 what can i do?

Am i now stuck with a phone which i cant change the APN settings on? i have always bought android phones i wish i had stuck with a new android phone.

I've got a 630 in the UK running 8.1/Lumia Cyan and Access Point is working for me automatically choosing Voda.

Try the 'access point' settings page instead. That's where you change and create them. (and edit if it's one you have added - network added ones can't be edited).

Settings --> Access Point

From memory it lists both contract and pay as you go regardless of which you are on.

David i downloaded and installed access point but it doesn't work on this operating system

Hi you can not edit or change your network`s APN
Instead you can add new APN and enter the details manually, with that done you can change the default APN to the one you wish
As mentioned the proper pathway is Settings>Access point
In my opinion WP handling of APN is far better than android`s way, the OS is always retrieving and storing the proper settings for the network you are connected to
From my(limited) experience on android this is not usually the way it works

Access point never came installed on the phone and when i did install it it says it is not compatible with this operating system.

If everything is updated and it still says incompatible I would suggest to call support
Access point was always on the system and can`t recall if it was Nokia`s utility but now everything is Microsoft

I would also be inclined to take it back and get them to replace it as it isn't functioning properly. If the replacement exhibits the same problem then go down the refund route.

A previous poster states access point does work with his 630 (which is identical to the 635 except for the fact the 635 supports 4G), and both are running 8.1/Cyan out of the box.

The phone is working properly after i installed access point REMEMBER this wasn't installed out of the box.

I go to settings click on access point and get this message is

"These settings are only available for earlier versions of windows phone, and wont work with this operating system".

The access point app has also been removed from the app store i think as well

Could this be some kind of firmware lock down?

Just a quick update on this i have just received an update for the phone this morning i downloaded it and installed it and now all the options are there happy days i love this phone (shame there is no flash lol)

It was the version of 8.1 that wasn't up to date

I still have the same problem when I go to settings click on access point and get the message.

When I do update it tells me my phone is up to date. USA AT&T 635
