Nokia Lumia 1020 battery problems?

Thank you for your detailed explanation of the cpu problem! Since I have already sent in my 1020 to nokia care for repairing the "battery drain" issue, they only changed the battery which so far didn't resolve the problem. The battery drain is still high and with moderate usage I can make it only for ~15hours, definetly to less! So I would be very thankful if anyone could provide me a short but accurate description of the cpu problem for the guy in the nokia service store (the last time they only wrote a message with "high battery drain" and sent it to nokia. So I need a better (short) description for the guy (I didn't had the impression he really knows whats going on..)) Thank you very much...

Everyone, the realism about it is the Nokia Lumia 1020 so far has THE worst battery consumption of not only the lumias, but every single phone I've had, contacted with, or heard of, 2000 mag battery isn't much anyways, the phone was designed to be a camera, it was designed to be able to take good photos, but a a heavy cost, the phone heats up alot, and its designed for the CPU to work mainly for tasks including taking photos which isn't much, it wasn't designed to last long just to get what you get, that's why they also added the camera grip with a external battery because they know it doesnt last long enough to get the amount of photos you need done if you're a heavy photographer, like myself. It wasn't designed for capability, it was designed for capacity, if you don't want something with this ****ty of a battery than get a 520, the main focus of this phone is the camera so, is the battery life worth sacrificing to you to be able to get the perfect shot? For me it is, I currently have 4 of those PD-95G camera grip, chargeable case, and I dont leave home without them when going for a photo shoot, sometimes I dont even have to use one of their charges, sometimes I use em all, its a pet peeve but also a personal preference, you have to deal with it...

How I fixed my battery problems:
Just wanted to share how I was able to resolve my battery issues. I'm a moderate to heavy user of smartphones. I use it mostly on my 20-30 min bus ride to work, during lunch and on the bus ride back home.

When I initially bought my 1020, the battery life was decent. By decent I mean that it would last me till night. But starting about 2 months back, the battery life became worse and worse. After just my bus ride to work, by noon the phone would be almost dead. I ended up charging twice a day.

Then I saw a post by someone here, made a couple of changes and baam, I'm back to the "decent" old days - the battery lasts till night now.

What did I do? I used to use the 'Battery' app (from the creators of the new awesomely useful 'Volume' app). But a couple of months back, I switched to the 'Battery Performance' app (ironically). Secondly, since manual Gmail sync is horrible now on WP (takes forever to retrieve my new emails), I turned on the auto sync for every 1 hour. Apparently either one of these or both were the culprits. I uninstalled 'Battery Performance' and started using 'Battery' again. I disabled the Gmail auto sync. I could see the difference from the very next day.

battery got low... got the message... now the flash is on and won't go off... 2nd phone in three weeks.. same problem.

I have new Nokia 1020, on my 3rd one in 2 weeks due to different faults on each.
Regarding battery all 3 of mine seemed to drain quickly. My current nokia 1020 also drains battery quickly and like you am not happy at speed it does this when just doing simple tasks such as check twitter and web for 10mins uses 7% :(

re overnight battery usage (standby ide) mine is 8% over 9hrs 20mins. so similar to yours maybe worse! come to conclusion all Nokia Lumia 1020s will be similarly bad :(

BTW my phona usually doesn't take any longer than an hour to full charge from about 10-20%,so its super fast charging, and also, my phone is SUPER HOT RIGHT NOW during charging, its like not melt anything hot but really hot nonetheless, I'm using it while its charging and it only gets hot when I charge it

My new Nokia Lumia 1020 phone takes 1hr 40 to charge from empty. :( I am using supplied Nokia wall charger. I have been told this is normal speed charging time for this charger.

I had this problem the first day I had my 1020; there's a few quick fixes you can make.

First of all, under settings for Glance (I think), set it so you can't double-tap to wake up the screen. This TREMENDOUSLY increases battery life. Lowering call and audio volume will boost it a bit as well. I haven't had that problem with the camera myself; not really sure what could be causing that. Make sure other apps aren't running in the background as well. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. Are you focusing a lot? Also, make sure your phone's not running hot while in use; this is a sign of the processor working really hard, and I don't know why it'd do that.

It's a small battery and the phone get hot with normal use. The browser gets is quite hot.

It's just not a device that will have great battery life. I love to tinker and OC and all that stuff, but if I could, I would actually UNDERCLOCK this CPU to spare battery.

That's one reason ill never go back to a smaller device. Bigger phones have much bigger batteries. My 1520 lasts over a day with moderate to heavy use. It has nearly double the battery of the 1020.

It's really unfortunate, the only thing really going for the 1020 is the camera. I'm not too happy with the rest of the phone. Well, the screen is nice, albeit small and dim in direct sunlight.

I'm currently have this problem too...

I bought it at december and the battery could last for 1 day and 6 hours but now only last for 18 hours sometimes 16 hours after using the 8.1 dev preview dunno if its the case. but i heard that the battery problem already fixed in dev preview for 8.1 (as i recall, we get 2 updates from the first 8.1 dev preview).

I already tried the solution as uninstalling battery performance, and shut down phone after 100% charged and do the soft reset for the past 5 days... nothing changed... also if you said that have to depends on the pd-95g camera grip, i only own 1 since here at my country its so hard to find this or rather not in yet, so i purchased from e-bay its also cost me a great bucks due to shipping cost and external taxes at my country.

So I dunno what to do anymore, cant find a fix for my battery problem maybe its defect?, gonna roll back to windows phone 8 version and hope it could fix this problem, gonna report later if my battery will last longer after that.

Edit : 11 days after hard reset, still 18 hours for my 1020...

Hello,

I wonder if the 18hr average for battery is the average/norm? After several factory resets and still having Bluetooth on, WiFi on (off when leaving office), and apps running in the background (Bing News, WPCentral, Battery, & Bing Weather), I am averaging anywhere from a 5%-6% battery drain.

Now if I am watching a video (Youtube or on a TV app such as Hulu), my drain will jump from 13%-16%. Before doing a couple factory resets in the past 60days or so, I would get a big 12% drain while on idle (which hundreds of us here on the forums have experienced).

ONE thing that is different is how I did my factory reset last time (roughly 3-4weeks ago). I went to AT&T to complain so I can get my third Lumia 1020 (via warranty). The gentleman took my phone and connected some cables to it. Instead of just giving me a new 1020 replacement, he flashed my 1020 using AT&T equipment. He said this "factory reset" is different from us users doing it through our phone settings menu.

Anyhow, I am surprised I have not had my huge 12%-18% (25%-35% during usage per hour) idle drain yet. Had this experience for about a year and now after my last AT&T visit....only 5%-6% per hour drainage on idle.

Anybody with a similar experience??

I have solved the same problem with the short battery life with my new Nokia 1020. The reason for the short battery life was not the battery itself but the rear xenon module of the camera. The failed xenon module needs a lot of energy also when the mobile phone is idle. My new phone was charged out after 16 hours - and it was idle all the time - before I replaced the xenon modul. Sometimes the short battery life is caused the polycarbonate cover because it includes a lot of electronic parts.

I agree with jirkahtc

I have replaced the Xenon too (replace with cover).

Now battery life is perfect.

I'm planning to replace mine too. But im confused about my battery performance, i don't think its normal or not. It drops 2 % every 6 hours idle (offline mode). While 1% every 5 mins of usage like listening music, continuously and i feels a little bit warm. And worst them all is when browsing internet. It's not just warm but hot. And it drains 1% in just a minute.
