Nokia Lumia 520 - Phone recognizes headphone jack as ALWAYS on

My phone keeps saying that my headphones are always on, even when it's not. I've tried a soft reset 3 times and blowing into the jack itself. I have NOT tried a factory reset. Note that I am using Apple iPhone headphones while the problem got introduced. Please help.

Try plugging in a different set of buds or headphones.
Sometimes that resets the audio jack back to phone speaker.
