Sadly, it has happened. Today after a days use of my wonderful lumia 822 running the flawless preview for devs, it decided to brick out on me. Totally unresponsive. It takes almost 20 soft resets to finally surpass the Verizon/windows logo and continue on to the full power on, however it is never recognized by the pc. Click on anything and it is forever frozen. I guess this isn't any help to anyone, but it is sadly dead. anyone else on the same boat as me? :asleep:

Wasn't there a warning posted about updating a Verizon phone to WP8.1 Dev Preview ?

NOT to do it ...

I have the Lumia 822 still on 8.0 WP OS and it's killing me. Of the 16 GB internal I have
8.88 GB of system files,
3.88 GB apps,
432 MB music,
193 MB pictures,
262 MB maps,
135 MB email
And the rest 155 MB free
But the free space varies and usually it is less.
I have a 64 GB SD card about half full and I have the phone set to put music, videos, podcasts, photos, and maps on the SD card.

I have been trying to clear the temp files with Nokia Storage check, but it never amounts to much. I have been removing apps and games to make free space. Now I'm to the point where I have no games installed.

How can it be 8.8 GB of System files?

I have been waiting for Verizon to release the official 8.1 WP OS so I can at least move my apps to the SD card and hopefully get a few games back

Any thoughts?

I'm not an expert but here are a few questions to help us understand the situation better:
- Did you try taking the battery out and then putting it back in and try to start the phone?

- Did you have automatic upload to OneDrive turned on for your photos? via WiFi? You didn't say if you had looked for the photos in OneDrive?

- Did you try to upload your photos individually to OneDrive by checking the checkbox for each photo?

- Did you have an SD card and did you have the phone set to put the pictures there?

- Lastly, as one last thing to try, failing all else, I would plug the phone into the charger and then try to start it from time to time over the course of days.

- You could also try to reset to factory settings, but you will lose all your data that wasn't backed up to OneDrive.

There is also a way to go to Nokia web site and download the 8.0 WP OS. I don't know where or how, but again, I think you loose all your data. Maybe someone can explain that further?

Let us know what happens.

Best wishes.

well, ill make sure to answer all of these questions in order, so here goes

1. I did. and as a matter of fact, I tallied how many times I did it and it came out to 47 times, marking which ones made it all the way to full power on (total of 4 times)

2. I turned auto upload off because I was not on wifi, just playing it safe.

3. no.

4. I did leave it off all night, just to wake up to the same thing.

5. I was trying to do that, but the driver was corrupted and wouldn't send / receive information, thus being a total bust for moving pictures and restoring it.

*update* I did manage to turn it on and move pictures quickly and carefully to a micro sd, and seconds later it froze up. Lucky me :D. so I took it to Verizon today just to see what they would say, and were not interested and told me Im due for an update also telling me the lumia icon is on 50% off. So now im an Icon owner now haha

I'm glad you were able to save your pictures. Wow, an Icon! I'm jealous. I always leave the phone backup to OneDrive and the photos sent to OneDrive turned on and set to only use WiFi data. I have WiFi available to me in many places.

Except for the time and grief, your story turned out well.

Best Wishes.

yeah thanks man! anyways it only turned out to be 50 bucks and that's a great deal seeing as how its got a quad core and bigger camera. I will forever love my 822, having it for over 2 years, it was the greatest phone Ive ever had. it turned heads and I actually got a few buddies to go WP. I was hesitant to get the icon, but I mean why not? It is (or was, hopefully) an flagship phone. but I can tell you one thing, it is going to take some time to relearn wp8 as opposed to wp8.1 haha. anyways thank you everyone!

Just out of curiosity.....with you old phone go on to Microsoft website and use the "find my phone option" as your phone is turned on. Then use the "wipe the phone" and see if it restarts
