Nokia Lumia vs Samsung ATIV

Not really. How great has Samsung been at supporting its devices vs Nokia? As far as I know, the 810 is the only WP that was dropped. So, you're sick of it? Boo hoo...

My ATIV S has received every update released so far, both OS and Firmware. Samsung also update their apps regularly and ALL their devices WILL receive the 8.1 update as well. So, yes I am sick of the BS spouted by Lumia Hipsters like you!!!!!

well u are wrong...samsung ativ s review from gsm arena

The mapping solution in Windows Phone is called just Maps. Microsoft claimed that the service is now powered by Nokia Maps and its Navteq Map data, but the interface and the general user experience looks the same.

Unfortunately there is no voice-guided navigation like Nokia Drive. The only available option is directions.

Real-time traffic information is available, though and so is caching for offline usage.{no downloading of entire maps like here drive} This means that you can preload map data and use it on the go without a working data connection.

Samsung Ativ S review: A fresh start - GSMArena.com

Ironically you quoted the ATIV S review, the same phone that I have so I have first hand knowledge that Maps/Bing Maps whatever the **** it's called has support for Offline, not cached, but actual Offline maps. You want proof then I can post a screen shot!!!!

pls post a voice guided navigation sample like u get in here drive app...
bing maps are powered by nokia maps.what part u dont understand?rest that review says clearly..if u say gsm arena is lying LOL OK...
Nokia phones have some exclusive apps which i find useful.what part u dont understand? If you find that useless good for u.i find that useful so i bought a Lumia.i thought people had freedom to say their opinion in a forum without getting jumped upon and sweared by fanboys like u.
dude read what I posted then reply the relevant thing. If u want to reply to a part of the post and swear to justify ur attitude then no use in talking.
If u feel happy with ur phone thats all that matters.i dont own nokia or Samsung so I dont care what u think or anyone else think.felt that since its a forum everyone could say their opinion.
But I think ur too worked up coz someone said what they think.
And I dont want to get into baseless argument with fanboys like u so not replying anymore. and finally from ubergizmo site
The map application in the ATIV is the generic one that you will find in other WP8 handsets, most likely powered by Bing with the location data from Nokia. The Lumia 920 features custom map and navigation applications, namely Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive+ (Beta) and Nokia City Lens.

The default Windows Phone 8 map does well, but the Nokia Lumia 920 has a definitive advantage, thanks to Nokia Drive, an app that makes the Lumia 920 act and feel like a real personal navigation device (PND) that provides voice directions and indoors maps for a number of malls and popular locations.
..sorry man i prefer to go with tech sites rather than a fanatic like u.
i posted something from a very reliable site followed by many for reviews. i would rather go with it than a person who resorts to swearing and trash talking in a forum when some one says something negative about his beloved company which is supposedly owned by him.

Hi WPC
first of all, I'm sorry if this thread is in the wrong forum...

I'm from Indonesia and currently using Nokia Lumia 1020

I'm looking for a phone to recommend for my relatives (and to lure them to Windows Phone, of course)
I've been looking at several reviews about some phones, especially the Nokia Lumia...
recently, the Samsung ATIV series caught my attention

any of you guys have experience using both a Lumia and an ATIV and care to give some review?

thanks in advance :)

I use my phone for business and pleasure.

My Windows Phone experience started with an HTC 8X which was a lovely phone in the hand and reasonably reliable.

I was tempted into buying a Nokia 925 by the capabilities of its camera (for myself, I would never bother with a 1020 ... I'm not a good enough photographer but I do like to snap the odd shot from time to time, often in poor light) and the improvement in on-board memory (16gb to 32gb). The phone was okay ... it was a bit clunky and inclined to slip out of one's hand from time to time. The design was ... ugly ... no other word for it ... the back cover always looked a mess, and rather gave the impression I had a sweaty hand problem!! Some of the apps I downloaded never performed very well ... for example, I could never get the Live Tile on CalendarPro Free to update to the right day of the week ... minor but niggly problems. Battery life was okay ... the phone just about got though a working day. However what eventually drove me to continue my quest for the perfect Windows Phone was the ability of the 925 to hold a signal in an area of poor reception (eg where I live). I went through 2 925's and both performed equally poorly (when compared to the HTC 8X). (To explain, when sitting on my desk the phone would show about 3 bars - same as the HTC 8X - but, unlike the HTC, the moment I picked the phone up the bars would bleed away to nothing).

I became aware that Samsung had produced a Windows Phone, the Ativ S, because I came across an almost endless stream of criticism concerning the phone. Expansys were selling the Ativ at just over ?150 so I thought (after the twice as expensive 925) I couldn't go far wrong giving it a try. I was overwhelmingly impressed. The phone looked good, was comfortable to hold and no "shs" (sweaty hand syndrome). Most importantly was its ability to hold a signal - my friends and colleagues all thought I had changed my provider and were v surprised when I said I hadn't, just my phone. Every app I put on the machine worked perfectly ... immediately. The battery life was stunningly better ... for me, often two days before it needs to be recharged. The storage space, with the addition of an SD Card is all that I will want. I immediately bought another Ativ S to hold as a spare.

The only disappointment (and I do appreciate this will be crucial for many) is the camera. Absolutely fine in daylight but not at all good in poor lighting conditions. I still yearn for the 925's camera at times but I'm long enough in the tooth to accept one cannot often achieve perfection in this imperfect world! I can say that when/if the Ativ SE is distributed more widely I will look at this before I look at another Nokia ... I think!

Hope this helps!
