Nokia offering fix for dust entering 920

Just google nokia direct and it should take you to your local site
from there you can start a live chat with a rep if you have any Qs or just sign up and open up your case

I am currently with Rogers and will be sending out my 920 to the Nokia service center in Ontario. I do have a lot of dust in the FFC and a few other major problems. Rogers could not provide a solid fix after sending it out to them TWICE...so I will be trying the manufacturer directly. Do any of you know if unlocking the 920 voids the warranty?

These are the instructions(For Canada): http://download.fds-ncom.nokia.com/...epair_form/CA_English_Repair_Form_6-28-12.pdf

I love my 8x, but as soon as the new 920s roll off the line, I'm back!
Sent from my PM23300 using Board Express

So if Rogers going to charge you for any of this? I'm getting quite a bit of dust in FFC too and planning to do the same

If you do it directly through Rogers everything is free of charge (shipping and repair). If you decide to go through Nokia Care then you yourself must pay for the shipping to get it to their facility(repair is covered by warranty). I will be sending my old unit out to Nokia Care once I get my new unit in next week.

How do I know if i have a the design change model? I just got this phone last night used and not sure how old it is. And does the warranty follow the phone since i am not the original owner? I cant see any dust yet so i guess thats good :)

Yes, unfortunately you will have to send it out. Take note that Nokia takes no liability for the phone until it reaches them. When I sent out mine I made sure that I applied $400+ insurance.

If you can't see any dust then you probably have one of the better models. Or the previous owner sent it out to get it fixed and then sold the phone. Also the warranty does follow you.

It's been months since Nokia told me that they had a fix for this issue if you hand your phone in so that's nothing new. Unfortunately if you live here in Norway at least, you cannot send your phone to Nokia Care if you bought it through a carrier. You have to send it to them instead and they (Telenor in my case) don't use Nokia for repair.

Still, I think I will visit this Nokia Care center and pester them a little. ;) Or maybe offer to pay for a permanent fix even if it is under warranty. I could send it in to my carrier every two weeks just for the **** of it and get a "new" clean refurbished phone but that doesn't really help me in the long run.

leaked pics of 928 seems to suggest they may have avoided this problem by making the lcd glass smaller, not covering the FFC.

has anybody had theirs repaired or replaced ?? does the hardware version change ?? my LED flash stopped working but I want to make sure I get one of the corrected builds.

Thanks.

I sent mine in for a led flash that had stopped working and also the proximity sensor thing. This was a first generation early build and that is also what I got back. Not my phone but a refurbished same gen one. You cannot make sure you get a good build back I think. Some people don't even get the same color phone back apparently. But they will fix your flash at least.

same to me. i can't be without my lumia for 10 days.
i just use dust off spray often, which is **** me off.
you buy a new device and at home you discover the damage

Does that mean Canadian users are doomed because we don't have Nokia Service Centre here?

Lol, really!?
How did you get the phone then?

If your carrier gave it, talk to them, if you bought it from some other country then you may not be covered under warranty and will be covered under dust :p

what do you even use your FCC camera for in the first place? The only thing i use it for is the Mirror app. It basically turns the FCC on and I can see myself how I look. :))

The FCC is not so much important im comparison to the proximity sensor...which is located at the same place aswell...
