Nokia offering fix for dust entering 920

Nokia offers nothing but a temporary repair which lasts in a couple of weeks and then the device must be returned for another repair!

Has this been fixed in new builds? I ordered a Yellow 920 from Amazon that will be delivered today and am hoping that it will not have this problem.

I went into my Nokia approved local repair shop and they said to me they will not touch it and I would have to send it straight to Nokia.

However chatted today with online support about my light leakage on the top and side of my display as well the dust and it getting pick up Monday the person I chatted to was very helpful.

When the (1308) firmware fix for this issue arrived I was certain that tweaking the sensor sensitivity would only help until dust eventually built up even more. But I was relieved to be able to hang up phone calls again. It didn't last long however and today the problem is back.

So now it has to go back to my carrie's repair shop where they have no way of actually fixing the issue permanently. Nokia could have repaired it they told me, but they won't take my phone since it is bought through a carrier (Telenor in Norway).

I have asked them of there is a way to make sure that I get my actual phone back and not someone elses refurbished one but they won't answer that question, which means no. The last time I got a refurb which was good really because it wasn't creaky and loose like my first one. But being able to see the screen during calls seems to be a rare luxury that only lasts for a few weeks.

I just sent in my 920 for repair for the dust. I did not wipe my phone and removed everything on my phone i dont want, but kept my pin. put a note in there saying dont wipe just fix the dust. Lets see if they screw it up or not.

Went to the Nokia unCare Service Center here in Taiwan to get my L920 FFC dust problem fixed. The service personnel said they would only clean it as they were unable to provide a fix. I told them nokia US was doing a fix so it would not reccur but she said Nokia Taiwan has no info about a fix. Also that they would be charging me bcoz my phone was not bought from Taiwan (i bought it from HK). I argued that it was a nokia design flaw and that maybe she should not be charging me for something that was a design problem. Still she insisted it was their warranty policy and recommended i have nokia HK have it fixed. She was talking like it was perfectly normal for dust to be in the FFC even after i showed her that the screen was almost all white when using the FFC with all the dust accumulated there. She recommended me to use a phone case so that dust would not get inside... Very very frustrating.. Way to go Nokia unCare!!!

Nokia has independent retailer in every country and has the right to reject your warranty claim. However she did not handle it professionally.

I got mine replaced like 3 weeks ago and I have no dust in the FFC as of yet. I do notice that this phone doesn't get as hot as the other one did. my original phone was from the first batch.

Is my ffc so grany because it's just not a good camera or do you think its because there is a little dust on it? I don't know how pictures from a dusty ffc camera look but its just so... Grany...

I knew that and i was prepared to pay for a fix. Not a cleanup that i am sure to be back for after a few months and then get charged again

Does anyone know what Nokia's fix is? sealing using tape/glue?
Would be great if anyone with the fix can post a picture of what Nokia actually did.

Just got around and called Nokia 2 weeks ago. They told me to send it in for service regardless if I use the ffc or not, just to be sure there won’t be any problem in the future because of dust inside the phone.

Picked it up today, and what they did is of course clean it and installed something they call proxy support and proxy silicon sheet. And they also replaced my USB-port for some reason. Happy to bury the iPhone in a drawer once again, but I will sure miss Temple Run 2.
