Nokia trash-talking about HTC's launch

The point is, they could have 95% of the WP7 market and they still wouldn't be in a position to talk trash.

Heh, what? So even if Nokia had 95% share of the WP7 market they wouldn't be in a position to talk trash to HTC (this is what the thread is about after all)?

Should Nokia really be doing the trash talking?

It is worse when your CMO does it publicly on Twitter for the world to see. Just seems very amateurish. This honesty has turned me off of Nokia a bit and I have always rooted for the company to succeed.

Why can't they just let the Lumia line and their products speak for themselves? Anybody else here feel the same way?

I don't think they need to stop it. I think it's funny, and i think it gets more attention for your platform. But in the end i don't think it well effect she's of the other products.

I don't know if this sort of guerrilla marketing works (I don't have an MBA), but I don't like it personally.

I don't think it bothered any of us when they were throwing shots at Samsung and Apple. I'd prefer that they don't do it to other Windows Phones, but it definitely isn't going to have any effect on my purchase decisions.

When people all over all praising the Lumia 920 when directly comparing it to the IPHONE 5, the iPhone 5!, I feel there is no need to trash talk HTC at all.

It's an inexpensive way of marketing. When a competitor spends money to create a buzz or event, then you can ride that wave for practically free. The point is to keep being part of the conversation.

Frankly, I wish they'd all do it.

Personally, I'm not a fan either. Unfortunately, those who actually offer detailed analysis and nuanced arguments get drowned out by those spouting vitriol and simplistic one-liners (the main reason Twitter exists). For some reason, humanity has a tendency to focus more on the entertainment value of competition and conflict (political campaigns and company marketing) than what is really of importance (policy issues and products). I wish it were different, but humanity obviously doesn't deserve any better.

In a nutshell: Nokia is doing what it needs to do.

Having 95% of wp share is currently like bragging you are famous in your home town.

I like swagger. Trash talk is a bit muh. I don't think Nokia is going to be the savior for WP7/8, I think it's going to be a group effort. Samsung, Acer, Htc, and the other company.

This is true as well. Which is why I wish they would save their words for other OS's. Ultimately though it's all moot until handsets actually reach peoples hands.

Only got to page two and feel like this is redundant. Sure it's poking fun or bashing one the eyes of different people. But why is everybody just dismissing that the htc 8x is ery similar to the lumias. I find it corny that they even made it seem as they made an original design. **** they even stole the color playbook Nokia ha in place with their first lumias.

Smh if you can't see that it's better a joke then a lawsuit. Lmao

It's funny what you guys consider trash talk.

Everything has been pretty mild.

If you believe you have the best product, then say so. You can't claim to like "swagger" but expect them to be timid.

So you pick the lower end phones. The HTC Titan 2 was said to be better than the Nokia Lumia 900. And the camera has been reported [by WPC and engadget] to hand the Nokia Lumia famous Carl Zeiss it's ***.

The Nokia Lumia 710 sure set the world on fire didn't it. :/

Nokia believes in their products. They should say so.

HTC should also do the same.

So should Samsung.

The more of this there is, the more their brands are in the news cycle.

Far too many take these things like personal insults.

If Kobe plays against DWade, do you think they talk trash? Of course they do! They may even like each other. But each of them believes in their ability.

If products speak for themselves, Apple wouldn't have gotten where it is today. Neither would have Microsoft. Of course, nothing to back it up screws you too, so it's a combination of the 2 that is needed for your product to be selling.

Nokia needs to be in the fray fighting for dear life. And throwing a few dirty punches here and there when the other companies aren't playing exactly fair is part of the deal now, like it or not. Besides, although some punches are a little unnecessary, like Nokia's statement on HTC, some are needed, like the Maps comparison. Shows up Apple totally and has a good comparison with Google's system too.

That will be more like Ken Griffing Jr making fun of Micheal Jordan for his baseball skills. We all know Samsung Jordan is doing at lot better than Nokia Jr.
