Not getting store updates

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I couldn't find anything beyond a simple Soft Reset, but nearly a month ago I stopped getting automatic notifications of Store Updates, so now I have to know what's been updated and manually update. Annoying!

I tried just a simple Soft Reset, didn't work.
Tried a tip I found on this forum of removing the tile, clearing temp files, soft reset then re-enable the tile. Didn't work either

Tried tweeting WinPhoneSupport, and they didn't respond when I said I'd completed the above already, so I'm at a loss without doing a Hard Reset.

Any ideas from the community?

As a side note, if I do a Hard Reset will I lose my SMS messages (I have got text message backup ON), and if not, will they auto-download back after restoring the phone?

Go to store settings, check the option "Update apps automatically". Probably you have it unchecked, so you need to check manually for updates.
