Note 3 won't receive group text from 8X

I have a friend that just got a Note 3. He is able to receive SMS text messages but not MMS group messages. The group message just shows a blank message bubble with no text. We have both deleted each other and re-entered the contact info.

The others in the group text have iPhones and they receive all messages from everyone.

I am able to receive his group messages.

Any thoughts on what may be happening / how to fix it?

ha, I told him the same thing. I'm trying to convince him to take it back and get the icon when it comes out
