Hi All,

since I've seen a bunch of folks stating they are having battery issues, I thought i'd share my find. I actually get great battery life on my 1020. except when I use the nokia GPS app. the HERE drive + app. I hope they fix the issue eventually. great app, but I plug my phone into the charger while I use the navigation app and the battery still drains down. i'm probably using a charger that doesn't have enough amperage to charge it fast enough, i'll have to test the other socket. it's a dual socket car charger that's meant for the iPad. one socket has the higher amperage needed for the iPad.

but just wanted to throw this out there...besides that my battery life is fantastic. I did turn off the glance functionality, but that's it. my battery saver doesn't turn on until like 5% battery left or something like that. battery lasts all day without issue if I don't use GPS. LTE, Bluetooth, wireless all on.

hope this helps other folks. I have no complaints for my 1020...great phone!

I would think that any GPS app running on battery alone will rip the device to shreds. I would never consider running Here maps without having it plugged in my cigarette lighter. How long did you use the GPS and what did it drain to?

I agree that GPS apps take a toll on battery life, but with my phone charging via the car charger the battery had dropped 4% with using the app for 30mins. on my other devices I would be able to go for a good chunk of time on battery and the phone would continue to charge if it was plugged in.

it has to be something with the app, at least that's what i'm thinking. I'm hoping the feedback bubbles up to nokia/MS and they look into it. it's abnormal drainage to me.

The GPS does kill the battery, if you can go buy a cheap cigarette charger on amazon....just look for the high charge rate! Not sure how its word, go to an ATT or phone website and they will say. Charges very fast! I bought my first one at an Att store and yeah its great!! But cost $20, on amazon found a Motorola one for $10 and its great!! No issues, highly recommend, just make sure its similar to the ones they over price in stores with the fast charging rate.

I discovered the same thing with usb chargers for my car. Marky_yo is right. They are not all created equal. I got one with two jacks, in case my wife wanted to plug in. Anyway, on the usb it was labeled 1A and 2.1A. Of course I paid no attention to it. I plugged my phone into 1A and kept it moving. Then I noticed the same thing you did. I wasn't charging. One day I got a wild hair and plugged into the one labeled 2.1A. When I got to work, my phone was still fully charged. I got this one based on how it was described and got it. Turns out, they ports are not created equal. Same goes for charging cables. Not all of those are created equal either.

Here is another little tidbit I have found with Here drive. Even though my phone charges while using the app, and on charge. If I pull my phone off the charger right after using the app I get fast discharge. If I let it sit for a bit after using the app then pull it off the charger my phone gets great battery life (I am using a 920 atm.)

Really? That is a great tip. Thanks.

I stopped using my commute when I drive home in the evenings if I am going to go long stretches without a charger at hand because of this. I use it when I plan on going straight home though, since a little battery drain at home is no big deal.

I found that enabling the 'Battery Saver' option in HERE Drive+ works relatively well. It continues navigation and turn-by-turn directions without screen being turned on but you have to have background task enabled for it. I listened to music through BT and had Drive+ going on battery from outside Richmond, VA to Smyrna, GA without issue.

I have found that the RIM chargers work quite well with the WP phones. A Blackberry always complains if it is not getting enough juice so they have a higher amperage rating than a lot of the other ones.
