Notifications on Windows phone 8.1

why not long press on home button for notifications? long hold on search makes much more sense for voice control (which isn't much more than a search)

Thus,

I'm sorry but that just makes no sense to me. I'd like it on home:

Back button: Go back --- Hold: See more options to go back.
Home button: Start screen with apps --- Hold: Neither Notications nor voice commands/search have a direct association with start, so I'd go with notifications.
Search: Search Bing --- Hold: Search with voice

Makes more sense for me.

Come on guys, long presses suck! WP is all about in and out FAST and there is NOTHING fast about long presses!

I'll settle for double tapping, but something more innovated would be awesome!

I'm in agreement. If we were going to see changes around the buttons, and if Notifications was going to be added as a button-launched feature, then I'd prefer to see long press of Search launch a Voice-activation, and a long press of Home/Start launch Notifications.

I use this button all the time, hardly worthless.Hopefully with Windows Phone 8.1 they introduce universal search like we have with Windows 8 already, I love search on Windows 8, it is probably the most powerful new feature in Windows. As far as notification center, what about a double tap of the home button? Access it from anywhere, even in apps.

I'd really like to see universal search as well. I haven't used Win8, and only saw this one screen shot where universal search was described so I'm not sure how well it is working in practice.

I know that I liked having this feature on my iPhone 4, but I didn't particularly like the way it was presented.

I don't care how I get to it, I just want it..... bad. I want a notification center that give me the option to configure repeat reminders until I dismiss them.

Example, we use Good Mobile Messaging for our corporate email. At this time I can't really justify allowing WP8 for corporate use because of the lack a notification center. Because of the lack of multitasking, the only way to alert a user using Good of an upcoming meeting is to send a toast. Well if that user does not see that toast for the few seconds it is on the screen it is gone forever.

A notification center would at least gather that toast... but even cooler, allowing the device to repeat certain notifications until dismissed would be even cooler.

I like the long press search button one since it's the only button without a long press action to it and makes it accessible from everywhere/anywhere. But please, no transparency, it looks horrible enough on iOS 7 already.

How about a swipe up from the bottom? I have a 920 and trying to reach the top of the screen can be tough.

Left side swipe. The less like Android and iOS (webOS *ahem*) the better. It's more natural to the UI language and will work in any app.

That is a great idea
