Occasionally very heavily distorted alarm sound or ringtone

I have noticed a few times that the sound coming from the speaker is suddenly very distorted. Like going through a guitar distortion fx box.

This has happened with normal default alarm sound when alarm goes off (Lumia bell or something) and with my custom .mp3 ringtone when somebody calls. Speaker volume was something around 2 or 3/10, so the distortion was not caused by excessive volume. And after that, I manually played back those sounds again and there were no distortion at all. The sound was clear. Seems that the sound is distorted only when the alarm or phone call awakens the phone.

The phone speaker was not facing a flat table surface or something which could have muffled the sound.

I'm not any help, but I've had that happen a few times. I figure it's just overall quality, since I've also had the screen show weird colors occasionally when I turn on the screen. Everything returns to normal.

It had happened a couple of times for me as well. But it is rare so I don't worry about it.

İt had happened when first time I use alarm with a song in my phone on wm10 but now fixed after 1 build. Just write it to windows feedback.

My Lumia 930 running Windows 10 has a couple of times also suffered this, Alert 7 was the sound being used for the alarm.

I haven't tried Windows 10 yet. So, this is a hardware problem?

Anyway, thanks for your comments!

Been happening on my 735. Thankfully only occasionally. I thought I must have damaged the phone somehow, but obviously not then if other people are experiencing this. I wonder what is causing it

Happened to my 735 and 640 as well. I just picked up a 550 and haven't had the issue. Hopefully it was just the o.s build.

Mine did it once with having the phone flipped up or down on the desk. I think it was a feedback/noise cancelling issue... I couldn't get it to replicate past that one time.

Happened to me once again today. This time the phone was connected to the charger. The alarm sound suffered from huge amount of distortion. Has happened to me at least twice while charging the battery. But also while not charging.

I use TPU back cover, but the speaker hole is very exactly positioned. So, I don't think this causes the distortion?

Interesting. That also happened to me with the alarm as well.

My wife's Windows 10 Mobile Lumia 640 has occasionally distorted sound on the alarm sound and ringtone. It is Version 1511, Operating System build 10.0.10586.71, Firmware 02177.00000.15184.36003, Hardware 2.1.0.2. It had the same symptoms on the earlier OS build 10586.63. Anyone know how to report the problem to Microsoft?

Since buying my 640 from BB on Black Friday, it has exhibited distorted sounds on both Alarms and Ringtones on an intermittent basis. Running 8.1.

Same behavior on my Lumia 730 with the latest iteration of Win10 mobile (sometimes the alarm sound is very distorted starting from low volume up). Never had this problem on Win8.1 GDR1 and GDR2. I think it's software related, but it's annoying enough. Please someone report this problem to Windows 10 buglist.

Since updating to W10, my 640 continues to intermittingly exhibit distorted sound just as I previously posted it did on 8.1 so the problem is not confined to W10.

I have has the occasional distortion as well on both 8.1 and 10. Annoying but since it is only every now and then it is acceptable.
