I was going into Notifications and Actions and setting a custom sound for Messaging. Which of course played that sound effect for all incoming texts. My dilemma was I wanted that custom sound for all texts minus the people I assigned different text sounds. So I would then go into their profile within the People hub, select edit and choose a custom text sound. Which to my surprise didn't work. This drove me nuts and I wrote it off as another one of the dozen bugs I've come across.
So today I thought, let's change back the Messaging sound to default, then go back to a contact's profile and assign the sound effect. Which worked. Great. So while I was able to get that working it seems you have to have the default sound for everyone else at the same time. Windows 8.1 you could have a custom text sound, then further custom sound per contact.
Hope this helps anyone trying to figure it out.
