Other storage suddenly grew to 8.3gb! I thought this was fixed?

Ever since I got the Amber update (months ago) my other storage has been at 1.9gb, which I was fine with

Untill yesterday when I suddenly got a pop up message saying my storage was almost full (when I read this I almost had a heart attack) before I had the amber update I had the same problem where my other storage grew to a whopping 23gb's, I ended up having to hard reset (the spinning cog took over 24 hours to complete which was very scary)

So it's sitting at 8.3gb right now and I am absolutely terrified that it's gonna grow even more :'(
Does anyone have some advice as to how I can keep it from growing?
Wasn't this supposed to be fixed with Amber???
I really don't want to do a hard reset again :'(

What happened before it grew? Did you install an app? Download email with big attachments? Anything like that?

In the past couple days I just downloaded some apps/games and some music on spotify that's all...

I just downloaded an app and the other storage grew by 0.2gb! o.O
Does this mean my phone will keep adding other storage every time I download an app?!

...yes.

Other storage is where apps put their data. So when you play a game and it saves your progress, that's in Other. When you download streaming content, it puts it in Other. Anytime an app needs to store data - unless it can put it in a different system location (i.e. music that can be saved in Music, pictures saved in the Camera Roll, etc.) the system puts it in Other.

But it's supposed to clean itself up isn't it? I think I'm going nuts because this should have been fixed a long time ago...

...yes.

But it can't "clean up" data that those apps are using. Wouldn't that suck if the clean up process suddenly nuked your saved games? Or some file you downloaded that you really wanted?

I don't know the specifics of how that works, but I assume it has to take a bit of time for the process to insure the data it's cleaning up is stale data and not actively used data.

But dude my apps' data isn't anywhere near 8gb's! It seems like it's just taking entire apps and throwing them in the other catagory....

I hope you are right and it will clean up soon...

that's all fine and dandy but even for me as I've stated in numerous post. Even after gdr3! My other storage is still at 10gb .ive looked many on this site have seen my 10gb is not accounted for neither at " phone storage" or " storage check"! This other will not be fixed until there's an actual clear out option for this "other storage" besides it is my phone I should be able to clear out anything I want!

Slightly confused. In Phone Storage on GDR3, there is no category for Other. At least not on my 3 phones.

if you have a Lumia down past phone storage is the " storage check" area with the pie graph. There you will find the " other" location.... Its there believe me.

So... you're saying that you have a phantom 10gb that isn't reported in either phone storage or storage check? Are they both reporting the same amount of storage used, given the difference in decimal precision (for instance, on my phone, 6.4gb is reported used in storage check, but 6.49gb is reported used in phone storage)?

From what I've seen, both apps report the same amount of storage in use, they just classify them differently. So, like, on my phone, the 418mb of "Other" in storage check is accounted for in other areas in phone storage.

yes I know I posted pics on other threads here and no seems to answer and no I don't download music only Pandora stream. I guess I'll post the pics again but if you can find the thread" other storage not fixed in gdr3" you can see the pics I've posted. Believe me im not going crazy! Others thought I was!

I can't find the thread. But that doesn't answer my question: are you saying that the total amounts of space used reported by both apps is different?

How can that be though?? I only downloaded like 10 songs... And the total amount of music on my spotify is only 1.5gb, so how does that turn into 8gb of other?

I dunno, dude, I don't have your phone in front of me and I don't know how you use it. All I'm saying is that 8gb of Other storage doesn't just magically pop up; it has to come from somewhere. It's probably a combination of your usage patterns, content you've downloaded, and apps you've installed. If you're not using that data any more - maybe it was temp files from the apps you installed or something - GDR3 should clean it up.
