Pentium Vs CoreM vs i3.

I am wondering how it's performance will compare to the surface 3, or the low end surface pro.

I am cautiously optimistic it's performance will be better than any lower end surface out there.

Anyone with any idea?

It's going to depend on what this is used for. A Pentium is good for most people who just surf, watch Netflix, check email, etc. I'm not sure where the CoreM falls in Intel's lineup.

Looking at passmark numbers the m3-7y30 is about 75% faster than the 4410y (3557 VS 2051). The 4415y is the same cpu as the 4410y running at 0.1ghz faster so the rating for it will be very similar. For comparison the i5-430M (not U or Y) scored 2100.

See the benchmark table in the WinCentral review. Single core performance is double that o the Surface 3, pretty good, and the Surface Pro 4 m3 is less than 50% faster in single core use.

The SD835 benchmark is interesting. The multi core number is faster than M3 Pro 4, and almost at I5 Pro 4. A real surprise.

Yes. Of course I don't know how much comparable these benchmarks are, considering they are 2 different architecture. But if they are comparable, then it kinda sucks that Surface Go doesn't have a Snapdragon in it. There is already a faster Snapdragon chip 845, which is said to be 25% faster than 835, which already makes it surpass Pentium in single core performance as well. And Snapdragon 850 will come out soon which is even more optimized for PCs and a bit faster than 845.

And Snapdragons allow instant-on (even after weeks of stand-by) and significantly better battery life.

We are on the verge of switching CPU architecture, and the bad luck of Surface Go is that it came out during this switching period, which will make its CPU get old quicker than it would normally.

That being said, Surface Go is still very capable and having Intel makes sure there is absolutely no backwards incompatibility and no emulation going on. If something works on your desktop or laptop, you can be sure that it will work on Surface Go as well, which is a pretty liberating.
