Phone Companion app not adding music

Correct me if I'm missing something here.

1. I connect my phone to my pc
2. Phone Companion app opens
3. I unlock my phone
4. The option to "Move a few files manually" becomes available
5. I choose "transfer other files with file explorer"
6. I have an artist folder with two subfolders for separate albums. I drop them in the "SD Card" folder on my phone through file explorer

At this point my mp3s should be added through Groove Music...right? Am I missing something? I know there's a lot more lag between adding music and it showing up than in Zune, but I added those files 3 days ago. When I reconnect my phone and look in the sd cad folder (where all my other music that shows in groove music is located) the folders and files are definitely there.

I rrrrrrreally hope they plan to add the option to sync through Groove Music. I don't want to have to buy an iPhone just for the iTunes syncing experience. Zune was arguably better than iTunes. Come on MS you can do better than this. Are the new wave of MS project managers just not music lovers or something?

I wish I was exaggerating, I really do. The files I tried to add when I created this thread showed up over a week after I tried to add them. I checked everyday for about a week and then conceded that something went wrong during the transfer and Groove just wouldn't recognize the m3s.

I'd planned on jist removing the folder I added and trying to re-add it and totally forgot about it. I go to check one more time the other day thinking"no way are they showing now, I checked for a week". I search for the artist in Groove...BOOM. The files are now showing. I was honestly blown away.

I'm beginning to think they're intentionally making the experience of manually adding music from pc to phone as unpleasant as possible (or at least not breaking their backs trying to make it pleasant) to push users toward the cloud.

I don't want to manage my mp3s in the cloud MS, deal with it.

I didn't have, like, any trouble putting some music to my 830. I just connected my phone, selected it in the file explorer, and moved my songs to the "Music" folder.... As simple as that

...and how long did it take the song to show up in your Groove Music collection? I tried again yesterday and it didn't take days but it took at least an hour which is still unacceptable considering it was nearly instantaneous with Zune.

It (seriously) took less than a minute. But I'm having a serious bug with Groove : it finds all the sounds from the games I download... So I have about +500 sounds in here

Do me a favour, have a look at your phone using "File Explorer" and type out your directory listing for an album or two and in this instance we will call the SD card the "D" drive.

So as an example of what I mean:

D:/Music/Artist/Album/IndividualMP3files

Would be the directory structure, correct. As a side note I find that when I add the song to my One Drive music folder instead I get MUCH faster turnaround time, further fueling my speculation that they really are trying to steer us toward the cloud. /rant

Any help would be appreciated man, thanks.

Groove has a problem with detecting new music from my experience.
I have used Media Player and manual transfer to add music to my sd card folder and it is very random on how it updates in Groove from my experimentation.

On a rare occasion it adds instantly, other times if you have Groove open / playing for some time.

To force Groove to update I do this:
Add new music > Storage settings > remove SD card > open Groove > try to play songs > error message > reboot phone > open Groove > wait for it to update library > play songs and be happy.

Of course this only works if you have music on the SD card, I still hope MS give us an update button in Groove.

If that ends up being the permanent solution that's just sad.

maybe just use drag and drop from iTunes...downloading iTunes for test on my 830

edit.: can't do it for now cause I need to reset itunes

Update: To Microsoft's credit it looks like they've been working on it. Today I added some music locally to my desktop. Plugged in my phone, dragged and dropped the album folder into the existing artist folder and not only did it recognize it within seconds of opening Groove on my phone, the music actually showed up in my collection within seconds. I need to try to add an artist folder to see if that still freezes File Explorer but this is promising.

This was one of my only remaining gripes with WM10. If they can sort this out I'll be ready to wave the w10m flag.
