Phone won't detect music files + other small issues.

Hello,

I've had my Lumia 920 for a few months now, and for the most part, I love it. I am having a few issues though, all music related:

1. Once in awhile I'll get an error saying something like "Sorry, we can't play this file on your phone." If I change the track, and then change it back to the one I originally tied playing, though, it will play fine.

2. Occasionally, tracks will have a very strong "pink noise" fuzziness. Changing tracks and changing back to the original track again solves the issue. Similarly, tracks will occasionally sound quiet and very, very compressed. This issue is fixed the same way as the above 2.

3. Is there any way to delete the artist backgrounds? Roughly half of my library had backgrounds downloaded before I turned off Xbox music service because it was putting incorrect tags on my music. The backgrounds are horribly low resolution and look terrible.

Now the major issue:

The phone won't detect music that has been added to it. This isn't the case with everything, only two artists. I manually browsed the files on the phone and found that the music files in question are in fact on the phone, but aren't recognized. There's nothing different about the music files than any other of my music files which work perfectly fine.

I tried removing and resyncing them by simply syncing with those two artists unchecked, but it didn't do anything at all; the files were still on the phone. Then I tried deleting the files manually, but when I do I get an error that they cannot be deleted because the device (the phone) has stopped working, or has been disconnected. I do not have this issue when manually deleting any of the other music. I also tried resyncing, hoping that re-adding them would fix the issue, but I got an error saying that they couldn't be added. Adding them manually yielded the same result.

I think I found the issue though: In the "Music" folder there's a folder named "Artist." Inside this folder are 0 kb files with all of the artist names...except the two I'm having trouble with. Apparently these files help the phone locate and identify the music files, which explains why I couldn't delete them. I tried copying one of the other files and simply renaming it to the missing artists, but that didn't work.

I really, REALLY don't want to have to restore my phone just to be able to get rid of these essentially "dead" files. Is there another solution?

Hi and welcome to WPCentral. I'm sorry that you are having problems with music on your 920.

Have you seen this thread? Perhaps there will be a solution for your music issues there.
