just had a self restart in picture app after had the message saying: it looks like there's been a problem with the SD card do you want to scan it, bla bla.

should I do a hard reset, then two soft resets, then some vodoo followed by rain dance?

Let the scan do its thing it doesn't work you can get a good Micro SD card for around 19 dollars and up. With at least a class rating 10 depending on capacity of storage also. There better choices then spending 40 dollars and up

SD card failure is not a valid reason for a phone to restart itself. At least not in 2017, when people are already planning colonization of Mars. SD card seems to be working fine btw.

And have you tried toggling HDR on/off?

I turned hdr off.took 17 pictures. no lag whatsoever. worked like a charm.
but it still did show "applying finishing touches" to a few pictures. that too overall for 10 seconds. all 17 images loaded crisp and fine.
