Photos take a long time to download to PC

When I connect my 1020 to my PC, the computer acknowledges that the phone is connected but can sometimes take forever to start to sync the photos to the PC. I have tried combinations of F5 etc. as well as disconnecting the phone and reconnecting it. Nothing happens! Then for no reason, it will start to download the photos and show the message "Everything's Done" . How can I get it to start the sync process right away?
