Actually I didn't use a tripod nor did I rest it on a table, I just shot it from my hand. In all honesty I was just messing around with the settings after reading one of the articles on here about the camera settings, then I just took the picture while there were cars in the background, and granted it was not that light out so it was much darker than it seems.

Ok. I have a stupid question. Which camera app did you use? The default app, or Nokia Camera Pro (now Nokia Camera)?

I was fiddling around with the camera and learned something.

The built in camera app only goes up to ISO 3200, Nokia Camera goes up to ISO 4000 1/4 stop higher (a full stop would be ISO 6400). That would account for noisier photos. I'm also using Nokia Camera Beta, instead of Nokia Camera; and the beta version may be adding to the noise problem. I'm going to switch back to Nokia Camera and see if my low light pics are less noisy.

The DSLR inst going anywhere but having a phone that can take pretty good pics is pretty awesome.

ISO determines how much light your phone lets in during a picture. So when there's lots of light, change the IOS low. If it's dark, make the ISO higher. Just turn your ISO higher and low light pictures should turn out brighter. Hope this helps

Sent from my iPhone using WPCentral Forums

ISO determines the sensitivity of the sensor (or film). Shutter speed and aperture determine how much light hits the sensor or film. Essentially, on a digital camera, when you increase the ISO you are increasing the signal strength. In doing so, you introduce noise.

I took a couple shots using the built-in camera app and Nokia Camera and didn't notice an appreciable difference in noise.

Here are some pictures from the Honolulu Zoo. The only processing I've done was converting from DNG to JPG and resizing to reduce file size.

Enjoy

Messing around at church last night. Evening light behind the multicolored window, just used the native camera app to crop and "auto-fix". Painted window is unprocessed. Autosettings in Nokia Camera app, except for setting white balance to incandescent (illuminated from behind with halogen spot.)

Boss this is mind blowing stuff , can you pls share the steps you used to edit this pics . seriously high quality stuff . kudos to you and Nokia
Of the four, three were post-processed in Adobe Light Room 4. The pic with the palm tree and lights were all done with Nokia Camera (picture settings), Camera 360 (using "Scenery" and "MicroSpur"), and 4Blend HDR (for Vignetting look).

The very cool thing about all these post-processed pics was that they were done on JPEGs. At the time I didn't have the camera setup to save as .PNG (RAW image). That says a lot about the quality of the PureView optics and native processing. Here's another I did with Light Room for post-processing.

Here's a low light shot taken last night using DNG RAW, and processed using Photoshop CC.

Noise is to be expected when using high ISO (in this case, ISO 800). You can try to set shutter speed at 1/5s (instead of the 1/11s which was probably used on Auto) then you could lower the ISO to 400. The image stabilization on the 1520 is pretty good and should be able to handle slower shutter speed without too much blur.

Here is one edited using Nokia Creative Studio with the "opal" filter. Unfortunately, it's on the lowres version. It would be nice if Nokia updates Creative Studio to work on the RAW versions.
